i was curious if anyone has used a bushnell excrusion spotting scope, it looks just like the leupold spotting scope that the us army snipers use, ive been looking at the two of them and can actually afford the bushnell but would like to have the leupold, if i bought the bushnell excrusion spotter scope would i be sacrificing anything or is it avery good sp scope to have.

Re: spotters scopes

The Bushnell excursion spotting scope I have has impressed me. The image quality is very good, especially at the price you can get them for. My biggest complaint regarding spotters has been eye relief. I needed something that would allow me to keep my glasses on and the Bushnell allows me to do that. I am easily able to see bullet holes at 300 yards, I have not had the opportunity to have the spotter with me when shooting further out but feel confident that it would do well for a couple hundred more. Resolving at deer a little more than a mile out was not a problem either.

The only short coming I have seen would be close range focus. When looking at birds at my feeder about 10-20 feet away I am unable to focus the spotter down on them. But I can live with that.

I have not looked through a Leupold spotter so I can’t comment, but Scott at Liberty Optics did a review on one and also I believe a Bushnell. The review is in the blog on his sight. Also look over on Optics Talk, SWFA forum, they have a few reviews if you search for them. The only complaint I have heard was the first batch of tacticals had debris around the reticle.

Re: spotters scopes

I think this is the best bang for the buck of any spotter. I was and still am amazed at how clear and sharp the image is and the plus is the mildot ret; I paid $330 I think or close to that.

I can easily see 308 holes with mine, last week checked out an Bald Eagle at 400 yards, superb image. At 350 while SavageStag was popping rounds out to 600, saw a ground squirrel just its head pop up over a small berm on the left. Weeks ago a guy could not see his holes at all with his spotter or scope, he jumped behind mine and raved all day how clear and the detail he could make out down range.
No specks in mine.
Its very tail heavy and likes to creep up unless John Wayne'ng it tight to the tripod. As cold sinks in it sill creeps up as the metal shrinks.
I think its on the heavy side for its size so carrying it in the field it adds unneeded weight.
I think the eye relief could be better but it is not bad.
Power ring is quite stiff to rotate, in the cold here I do not adjust the power ring, sits around 32x.
Focus is easy and precise.
No eye piece cover so I had to hot rod mine out of an old Bushnell cover with shock cord.

I would like to get an ARD for it.
