ok, i dont have the worlds largest budget, lets try to keep it under 1000 bux. what do yall suggest spotting scope wise? i am looking into the vortexes right now, is the glass in these as good as everybody says on the viper rifle scopes? any suggestions are appreciated

Re: spotting scope

I spent $169 for an Alpen 742. No complaints. Alpen gets no love here on the Hide and I guess, if one of the big guys did a review that would change. I did sell it this summer getting more for it than I paid. I wanted something with mil ret which led me to...

The Bushnell Excursion got rave reviews here but I hated the eye piece and rubber cup. I had a hard time getting a full view with the short eye relief. I thought the glass was really good seeing things out to 800 yards or so. Plus this thing is huge and heavy. This soured me and then the issues of black specks and water, now I have no idea if I will or not.

I have looked through Vortex rifle scopes and very clear and bright.

Good luck

Re: spotting scope

I just had a Alpen 20X60x80 out to the range this morning for the first time shooting at 100 yards. It worked well but the eye relief was poor with my glasses on. No problem with them off. Before you spend the money for the Alpen I would get a Konus. It has much better eye relief and it is a bit more clear to look through. The weather today was over cast and 77 degrees with 65% humidity.

Re: spotting scope

I posted the same question recently and was directed to the Kowa spotters. After going and looking through several of them compared to others they are definately the way to go on a budget.
