Re: SPS Tactical 308 1000 yrd Load Discussion Thread.

Just what I was looking for. I just got an sps tactical 20in .308
I did some reading in the .308 load thread and the vast majority of 168&175 loads were using R15 or varget. I have some expirence with varget in my .243 but I have never run R15 in anything. It looks like they are pretty much a toss up between the two. Anyone know about temp sensitivity of the powders? I had an issue with R22 in my 300wm in freezing conditions. I generally run IMR or hodgen powders.
I will post some load data after I get out to do some load development.

Re: SPS Tactical 308 1000 yrd Load Discussion Thread.

Yea 155..175 and 168's seem to be the faves.. I built up some 175 SMKs
Havnt shot them yet.. Still waiting to go out and do some load data..

But 155/168's are good for sub 800yards.. Better consistency than the 175's..

But I hear once you get past 600 yards 175 SMK's are hard to beat.
Reason I went with the 175's.. Im just looking for a 600 to 1200 yard load.

Re: SPS Tactical 308 1000 yrd Load Discussion Thread.

I will mostly be using mine for the raton shoot where targets are 175-875. I will be 100-600 the rest of the time as that is what alot of the guys I shoot with usally shoot. I will work up some 175 loads for the 1000yd line after I get the 168s dialed in.

Re: SPS Tactical 308 1000 yrd Load Discussion Thread.

I've heard good things about the 168s with grouping and consistency when dialed in.

Re: SPS Tactical 308 1000 yrd Load Discussion Thread.

I have shot quite a few 168's out to 850 and they group very well between 1/2 and 3/4 MOA @ 850. With that said I had just shot a 5in 4 shot group at 850, moved to 1000 and they were done. Not just a little... but done.... don't waste your time shooting 1000 with a 168. You will just be wasting your time and your bullets.
