If anyone wanted to know, high rings will get the SS up enough to not touch the shroud, but it will be damned tight! just a few thousandths off it. Mine are Leupold highs. Not sure what I'm going to do about lens caps...

It is a nice piece, very ergonomic and zero regrets about picking it up. And Kyle's customer service is top notch. I have a Winchester M70 in 300 Win Mag I will be wanting to put in one of these soon.

I spy a bald head. Can you shim the one piece rail to raise it up just a bit? Have any machinist friends or know anyone with a CO2 laser?

I suppose I could shim it, but that would bring it up even higher. As it is I am going to have to build up the stock to maintain a good cheekweld.

I'm your newest friend and at my work we have 2 lasers. Only thing is i don't know how well a laser cut part would integrate itself to the package without sticking out like a sore thumb. Black zinc'd steel wouldn't match up. cold blackened steel might come close, but not exactly. Black anodized aluminum or type III hard anodized perhaps, but i doubt i could swing that one and don't like the idea of an aluminum shim.
Can you sell your rings and find a set a bit higher?

thanks for the info, Yash. I just received my SSHD yesterday and I was curious as to what ring height I would need. Due to my past experience, I was guessing highs would do the trick. Although, it appears extra highs may be in my future because you don't have the BC caps on and it appears you have a micron's width of room to follow through with this...thank you for posting this, it helps greatly!

Before you do anything put in on a bipod, and get behind it and load the bipod and have someone check clearance while you do it.
I'll bet your clearance disappears and you have scope on shroud contact.

damn guys! I ran the numbers from XLR's website (and used the info on this particular post) to go out and buy some rings today. I bought Burris XTR's in Extra High (clearance stated these are 1" high). When I ran threw XLR's formula, I came up with a necessary ring height of 1.01". Perfect! Or so I thought...I just finished strapping the SS in...holy shit! I have about an inch worth of clearance from edge of BC cap to handguard!!! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!! Do ring heights vary from company to company? I just assumed that because Yasherka used Leupold High's, that using Burris High's would get me the same result. Must not be true, huh? Damn! Back to big box store I go...

The height between companies definitely varies. "High" on one brand may not be the same as "High" on another brand. My medium Burris XTR rings were pretty close to the high Seekins.

Rings "sizes" are not standard from one manufacturere to another. One's high rings might be lower than another's medium.
That being said, what I think you've run into in that different manufacturers also measure different dimensions. Some give the rings height as the distance from the top of rail to the bottom of the ring "opening", others measure from the top of rail to the centerline of the ring opening. You need to determine what dimension the manufacturer lists as the ring height and adjust accordingly. Good luck

I put a piece of paper between the objective bell and the handguard. There was definitely some rubbing when I loaded the bipod. Not much...the guard is very rigid, but enough to get at least a small amount of contact.
My solution, such as it is, was to put the 5-20 on my M-70 long-action and put my Vortex PST 4-16 on the XLR. Now I have about 1/8 inch of clearance and no rubbing problem. Wish I could have kept the 5-20 on it, but there were going to be too many issues.

I just used a sharp knife on a Gerber multi-tool and shaved it down. Don't try to cut it all at once.
