Stabilize 70gr TSX

My 18” larue stealth stabilizes the 77gr SMK/TMKs, and shoots lights out. I don’t see why it would have a problem with the TSX. They’re typically like $225.

I have a 16” stealth, but I am moving to an 18” barrel. I have heard that TSX will be marginally stable out of a 1:8 twist. I feel like it will start to fall off outside of 3-400 meters. Do you know if a 1:7 will completely stabilize the Mk262 round? I want to be accurate with my entire stable of ammo

I’m at sea level, my TMK handloads shoot ~2750 out of the 18” barrel (basically mk262 velocities) and have been stable out to 800 yards. The 70gr tsx and 77gr smk are quite a bit shorter than the TMK, so they should be gtg.

You can also try the Berger calculator here. It shows the tmk to be only SG: 1.41 for me, but the TSX at 1.037” has a SG of 1.54, and the .95” SMK at SG: 1.99. You should be gtg with anything 1:8 or faster.

Reports of issues with 1/8 and the 70TSX usually involve slower loads or shorter barrels but there are lots of negative reports out there. I would—and do—stick to 1/7. We know that works.

I shoot MK262 out of my Noveske 12.5 1/7. No issues in stabilization at all. As a matter of fact that is exactly why the 12.5 was developed to be the shortest barrel to stabilize the .77 grain MK262.

I have a 14.5" BCM that shoots Barnes 70gr TSX outstanding.
