STANDOFF is over dykes is dead!

Re: STANDOFF is over dykes is dead!

Assisted by Dale Co. Sheriffs dept. I'm stationed in a neighBORING county. Hasn't really been much about this on the local news but I shoot with some of the deputies occasionally. Needless to say, they were absent from the range this weekend.

I was thinking in terms of the actual assault on the bunker, didn't intend to forget about everyone else down there. I don't envy anyone involved in that situation. The stress probably took some months off of their lives. I applaud them all for a job well done.

The place where he was holed up is literally less than 1.5 miles from where I work. Someone was outside and actually heard the explosion this afternoon. We knew something had to have happened. We were hoping the boy was okay.

I'm just glad that douche is dead.
We aren't used to that kind of crap around here.

Job well done to whoever did the entry, as well as everyone who worked to keep him from hurting the kid over the past week.

Looks like it ended as perfectly as it could have under the circumstances...the kid is OK and taxpayer dollars will not be wasted trying and housing the POS for the rest of his natural life.

I can't imagine what those parents have been through, but it makes me hug my little ones a little tighter.

Seems Mr. Dykes was a decorated Viet Nam vetern. Something pushed him over the edge.

A week-long Alabama standoff in which a retired trucker held a 5-year-old boy hostage in an underground bunker has ended with the kidnapper dead and the child safe, according to law enforcement.

"FBI Agents safely recovered the child who's been held hostage for nearly a week," FBI Special Agent Steve Richardson said at a news conference.

The agent said negotiations with the suspect Richard Lee Dykes "deteriorated" in the past 24 hours.

"Mr. Dykes was observed holding a gun. At this point the FBI agents fearing the child was in imminent danger, entered the bunker and rescued the child," Richardson said.

The boy identified only as Ethan "appears physically unharmed" and is being treated at a hospital, authorities said.

Dykes, 65, is dead, but officials have not yet provided details on how he died.

Dykes allegedly shot and killed a school bus driver last week and threatened to kill all the children on the bus before taking the boy, one of the students on the bus said.

"He said he was going to kill us, going to kill us all," Tarrica Singletary, 14, told ABC News.

Dykes had been holed up in his underground bunker near Midland City, Ala., with the abducted boy for a week as police tried to negotiate with him through a PVC pipe. Police had used the talks to send the child comfort items, including a red Hot Wheels car, coloring books, cheese crackers, potato chips and medicine.

Dykes was a decorated Vietnam vet who grew up in the area. He lived in Florida until two years ago, the AP reported, and has an adult daughter, but the two lost touch years ago, neighbor Michael Creel said. When he returned to Alabama, neighbors say he once beat a dog with a lead pipe and had threatened to shoot children who set foot on his property.

Glad to hear it worked out as it did. Good Job to those involved, and ya'll can go home proud.

That little boy, I pray that he gets the help that he needs. For as long as he needs it.

Good job to everyone on scene. Especially the entry team and negotiators. From the schematics of the bunker that I saw, it couldn't have been an easy assault.

Re: STANDOFF is over dykes is dead!

Finally, I heard the undertaker was starting to get impatient.

When I first saw the news it seemed like they were being careful not to say how he was killed, I found that kind of odd.

I am very pleased with the outcome of this. As a parent, I could not imagine the uncertainty that this childs parents felt. Lets just hope this doesn't mess the kid up too badly for the rest of his life.

Although, I will put money down, within a year, maybe a couple, this piece of shit will be idolized as some sort of a patriot. Seen it with Tim Mcveih(sp), wouldn't be shocked if Infowars slams the FBI, and calls it an execution.
