I have been scope shopping for a while and thought i had it narrowed down to the dmr2. After coyote hunting at night with a light and moon light i relized low light performance is a very important factor for me.

This is going on a multi role rifle that is used for hunting day and night, range shooting and an occasional prs match.

I like the zoom range and size of the dmr2. I dont hate the reticle but it does leave something to be desired.

I really like the steiner reticle but feel i will miss the top end magnification.

Both of these are in my budget. Looking at the sub 1000 dollar mark.
Will one out perform the other on moonlit nights?

Thanks for any help

Bushnell DMR2 pro... if you can afford the better glass, do it. The pro has the primo bushnell glass from the XRS2. I have the XRS2 and it's quite nice for the price.

The Meopta optika 6 4.5-27 mrad fills both rolls pretty well. I wish it had more grid inside the 2mil horseshoe but it works. If 34mm is a must, the 5-30 will work equally well.

I got the Steiner 4-16 and have been very pleased. Low light, is what l got it for, is great. The thing tracks perfectly and the eye box is forgiving. Great price from Cameraland at 799.00.

So i know the reticle is outdated and it's lacking in top end, but the weaver 3-15 has amazing glass. I used it extensively throughout the 2017-2018 hunting season and spent countless hours hunting with it during night time using nothing but ambient light. It is one I deeply regret selling. For a hunting scope, it works awesome. Top notch glass clarity and superb low light performance. Just a thought.

I have DMR II, DMR II illuminated and use the P4xi 4-16 on my hunting rig. It works well with illumination in low light, but the reticle is too thin without it so make sure you have a spare battery. Higher magnification is not your friend in low light

Been very happy with my Vortex PST gen II,,lighted reticle,,great warry and customer service.
You can get them for less than MSRP

Example

Look on Euro Optics

For a cheap scope these can't be beat. I got a 1-4x for $279 IIRC. Got it for a .22 but I wouldn't hesitate to use it on an AR, I was actually impressed with the quality.

But it seems to me you wanting it for low light and all, that you'd want a bigger Obj.
