I currently have a factory Stevens 200 and plan to ask for some upgrades for Christmas since my mom still spends money on me like I am 10 when it comes to Christmas, hey I'm not saying a word. Anyway, I will be going with the B&C Medalist.

But, my dillema is that I have the factroy Stevens sporter barrel and at some point would like to upgrade to a bull or varminter of some sort. So, should I just get the B&C that is fitted for the sporter? I think this barrel is fine as long as I give it time to cool. The other thought would be to buy the Medalist in a size that is suited for a heavy/bull barrell and just use my skinny sporter barrel in it until I get the upgraded barrel.

Let me know what you think. Thanks

I think you should drop 150 bills on what GunShack.com has left on their group buy and get a heavy barrel now so you have it. I just picked up a SS .223 for $158

Just checked into that, but, 308 is all out, bummer!

Midway has them at 24" and ss for 200.00 and they come with the gauges and the wrench. They also have a 20" crome molly that is thredded for supresser it is 130.00 but has no tools. they are .308 and ER shaw.

If you're gonna get a new barrel, sped a little more to get a good barrel. A Stevens will shoot lights out which a nice barrel.

Jim of Northland Shooter Supply (can be found on the Savage Shooters forum) is a great source for Savage Barrels. He's the supplier for Criterion Barrels. Awesome barrels and great guy to work with.

On the B&C Medalist, I'd just get a varmint contour fitter stock. It's not that bad if the barrel is a little smaller than the barrel channel. If you upgrade to a bull, you can open up the barrel channel with a dowel and sanding paper.

Oh, when you change your barrel, make sure you get a machine ground replacement recoil lug. Much better than the recoil lugs that come stock.

Re: Stevens 200 ---- B&C Stock Choice

My old medalist fit my bull barrel just fine but there is a possibility you will need to sand a bit. Make sure your rear tang is floated in your current setup and your good to go. Your taking the same path I did a couple years ago so press on with the stock. I would recommend an xlr cheak piece also and I ran that setup myself until this past summer.

Good luck,
Merritt

Not to rain on your future spending, but I would sand the barrel channel in your current stock so that the barrel has room to float freely, and recommend a good 20 MOA scope rail and rings, a reliable scope...perhaps some loading equipment.

Those are significant upgrades. A heavy barrel will just add weight unless it's high quality.

Re: Stevens 200 ---- B&C Stock Choice

Tupperware Savage/Stevens stocks are notorious for flexing with bipod use, causing the stock to touch the barrel.

You'd be hard pressed to go wrong with a $200 A2 Medalist; they are good stocks and will work just fine with a sporter barrel until you upgrade.
