Rifle Scopes STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

I have had probelms with paypal before as well. I try to talk with people before I sell or buy something unless of course they are trusted and have had many other trasactions. I am very cautious about people with very little posts. Dont get me wrong because the majority of people are good to go but every once in a while there is that bad apple.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Not that it helps your current situation, but for future reference, advertise that you will not deliver the product t until the funds clear your PayPal account. In other words, once the funds are in your PayPal account immediately transfer them to your bank account. PayPal can only pull funds from your PayPal account. Once the funds are in your bank they are powerless, and give you more opportunity to present your side of the story.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

I use Visa Electron (a debit card) so if i buy something i put exact amount on the card account and if i sell something i immediately redraw funds to the card and then off the account to my other "safe" accounts. So even if my CC numbers get stolen there is no money on the card (unless i happen to be purchasing something but what are odds of that happening...) so they can merrily go F... themselves (be it criminals or PP with criminal intentions

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

PayPalsucks.com is just one of a number of sites I've found since this shitty mess unravelled.

Reading some of the horror stories posted on all of them, I'd say PayPal are no better than the weasly, gutless little turds who use it to scam people.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Sorry to hear about your pain.

Surprisingly I had the opposite (as in positive) transaction using PayPal. The buyer had his bank reverse the funds stating that he used the wrong account to pay for the item, or something like that. Any case PayPal placed everything on hold, and I discuss what was up and since they had the tracking # etc, it was found in my favor. Happy they ruled for me, but it does make me wonder about the empty box shipping trick I've heard the being done.

I hope something can be worked out for you, but sounds like it's pretty bleak.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Well today is a better day......

After sending a shitty email to PayPal letting them know that I have reported them and their crap practices to the UK Banking Ombudsman (code of practice and arbitration watchdog) I get an email from the "PayPal Executive Escalations Department" offering assitance in resolving the problems.

Fortunately I also got another major break through from Austria which pretty much leaves PayPal no room to weasle out of their responsibilities.

I'll get back to you all with further developments....

"We shall NEVER surrender!"

Progress is progress...sounds like you at least have their attention!!! Keep their nuts in the vice and keep tightening it down until you get what's right or until they pop!!!

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

So here is the outcome:

I GETTING MY MONEY BACK FROM PAYPAL!
laugh.gif
Thanks to their "Executive Escalations Dept" who stepped in as soon as I mentioned reporting them to the UK Banking regulatior/watchdog.

They finally accepted that I had provided acceptable proof that the item was delivered (a big thanks to Austrian Post, unlike the Royal Mail who washed their hands of the whole matter once it left the UK and couldn't help get me a copy of the signed delivery note!!)

PayPal will not tell me whether they will take any further action against the "buyer" even though he never advised them that the item had arrived, just accepted the refund and kept quiet.

Thanks to a couple of other Hide members I have been able to track this bastard down to some another couple of websites in Europe where he is offering what appears to be my 4 year old Triji for sale as new.

He will not provide the serial number to anyone to enable them to check the age!

Just in case anyone in Europe is thinking of buying an ACOG from anyone in Austria.....The serial number of my (ex)Triji is 106371

The owner/operator of the other forum has been made aware of this guy's activities but is reluctant to take any action against him without a police case being concluded against him......even though the bank account details he uses on those sites is identical to the one used to try to scam me. What is it with some people?

I do not want to breach Hide rules so have not posted the links to the other sites but will do so if Frank says it is OK.....in the meantime PM me if you want to check the guy out.

Looking forward, this is not over for the "buyer" yet.......he has more than PayPal and me looking into his activities.
laugh.gif

If/when I hear anything else....I'll keep you posted.

Thanks to everyone on the Hide for their support and advice.

My opinion of PayPal has not changed - this was a completely unnecessary episode that they created by ignoring plain evidence and being inflexible in interpreting their own Terms and Conditions.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Thanks ORD - but you soon find out that it is not only PayPal that are completely unhelpful.....Royal Mail and my local Police were less than interested in helping

It took the Austrians to really get this squared away!

And their trains run on time too......

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Open a special I net bank account just for sales. In future give them your banking details and don't send anything untill the money appears in your account. If they don't pay they don't play.
The trouble with Europe is that there is lot's of Russian mafia and other criminals from eastern block countries moving into western Europe and operating scams . when things get hot they bug out back home to some goat farm in the mountains.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Could do but then again...do you really want to be sending your bank account details out to just anyone? Especially with the organised crime and identity theft merchants that you mention out there and active.

That was one good thing about PayPal, you were invisible to the buyer except for an email address.

At least if PP act like asses and get their hands into your account there is some form of redress and hope that you can get the money back.

If I do this again...escrow account or Money Order only!!!

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Man, reading through this, I'm sorry for your troubles.

Its a small world in which we live that moves, literally, at the speed of information. Money, data, products, they can all be hand overnight it seems. Unfortunately, scams happen at the same pace.

I won't give you an advice on how to conduct your business. It just shows you can only trust those you know.

My apologies.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

camp carnage - that's good to hear - but they had their chance...it was on the Hide for a couple of weeks with no serious takers before I went on Egay:

Maybe I was too impatient, the price was wrong or the UK thing put people off but I needed the sale to finance a new NF.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Of all the dozens of instances I ever have heard of someone being screwed by PayPal over the past decade, this is the first time I've heard of them un-screwing someone.

Congrats, BasraBoy! Maybe you should go buy a lottery ticket, too.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Thanks Fred.....but they didn't do it particularly willingly! And they provided no help at all during the problem.

They made it as hard as they could even though it was easy to demonstrate that what they were asking for proof according to their conditions is pretty close to impossible for anyone to provide if the "buyer" is intent on fraud/theft.

Lottery? The last time I won anything gambling was when I was five and took a slot machine for £5! That was better than winning the lottery at that age.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Thanks Michael.

An even more positive result will be to get this guy nailed.

Looking at his posts on the Austrian site he clearly still visits the Hide regularly as he has re-posted a few recent pics from the Hide's Gallery Forum there under his own name.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Hey BasraBoy what I usually do is pull the money out with a PayPal debit card. Don't know if you can get on across the pond but you can ask PayPal maybe. With the card you can withdraw any cash from your PayPal account. I know there is a little fee but I would rater have the cash in my hand then deal with no cash and no product that was just sold. As for me I never dealt with issues exactly like yours so it might be different for you. Glad you did get your money back and your GTG

I would have snapped that up had I seen it. Price was good. I eventually gave up trying to source an acog and bought an eotech xps-2 instead (at an inflated $850).

Glad to hear it turned out okay for you in the end.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Good on you!

TOS CANNOT waver your rights under consumer protection laws.

I use PP linked to my CC. WHEN I get done over I WILL do a charge back after allowing PP a limited number of days to fix it. That's my RIGHT as a consumer. Yes, PP will "ban" me. Big deal
wink.gif

Everyone should know what rights they have and stick it to companies who screw you over. It's only the world wide acceptance of living like a door mat that allows this shit to go on.

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Thanks mate - I just hope my experience helps others.

The guys on the Austrian website where the POS is still operating have got all PC and locked the thread off after I and another SH member "outed" him.

All the POS could do was wave the original email where he claimed non-delivery and PayPal's original recall of the funds off my account as proof that he'd done nothing wrong!

He had

- no answers for the signed delivery note dated the same day he claimed non-receipt

- no explanation why he lodged a dispute without contacting the seller or asking for proof of postage and then delisted from Ebay the same day,

- no explanation why it was PayPal and not him who initiated my refund,

- no explantion why, if he thought I was ripping him off, he hadn't informed the law....

- no explanation how his "name" and signature appeared on the delivery note at the address he gave for shipment.

- and no surprise, concern or effort to contact the law if someone was illegally signing for stuff he'd purchased at the address he'd given

Hope "snakedocter" is sleeping a little less easily these days....wondering when the knock on the door is coming!

Re: STOLEN ACOG , PAYPAL are A**HOLES!

Have just had a PM thread over on the Austrian site with one of the moderators after I had sent him the proofs.

Seems like after the "outing" snakedocter voluntarily deactivated his account!

They will leave the thread listed but locked so that others can view it and decide about the guy.

I'm pretty much done here now...the money is back in my regular bank account and the bastard has hopefully learned a lesson.

He still has to wonder how long it will be before the authorites catch up with him.....

Thanks for all your support and advice....and special thanks to abersfeldrami and cobaltbomb for their practical help.
