I've been shooting a 6.5x284 built on a long action Winslow/Winchester and the cases keep sticking. I am shooting 142 SMK's with 46.5gr of 4350 in Hornady cases but I am getting no pressure signs. No extractor marks, no flattened primers, no stretched bases etc and 46.5 is the start load. I suspect the cases are too soft, I took them out of the box and chamfered the inside and outside of the case necks and the chamfer tool didn't really shave brass off but it seemed to push a lip of brass down away from the tool that I had to file off with a jewelers file. Any suggestions?

Re: Stuck Cases

Are you useing new brass, could be the brass length. Creating to much tension and swelling in the chamber.
Do you have an extractor on the bolt, that could be it also.
Try chambering a resized caseing and work the bolt, if the caseing gets stuck in the chamber that could be it.
The lip you describe when you chamfer the cases, could be to much pressure, being applied by the tool.

Re: Stuck Cases

The brass is new from the box and unsized, according to my mic it is not overlength. The cases chamber with no resistance and I can extract an unfired round from the chamber with no resistance but when I fire a round the cases are sticking???

Re: Stuck Cases

Look at the fired brass for any rings. Sometimes a bad chamber can cause those problems.

Re: Stuck Cases

If your brass is soft it would show early pressure signs. These kinds of things are hard to determine without pictures and lots of detail. Is this a new build? I have seen rough chambers that would cause this. You might try increasing the powder charge if you are at starting load and showing no pressure signs. Best I can do with the info available.
