I recently installed a sako brake on my trg 22. I was surprised when it shot 6" low at 100 yards. I expected it to change my poi, but not to that degree. Is it fair for me to assume the brake reduced the velocity? I don't have a chrono to test. I wouldnt be so concerned, but i have a 20" barrel. With the brake installed, i'm needing 6mils of elevation to hit the target at 700 yards. Last time I shot, the shooter next to me let me use the chrono and I was getting about 2490 fps with the brake installed. If the brake is reducing my velocity, I'll remove it...

If the barrel length, to the end of the muzzle, is still the same I would think the velocity would be the same.

I am no expert but I believe you are seeing the difference recoil makes on target. It won’t shoot slower or faster with a brake installed.

Something doesn't sound right, you should have minimal POI shift at 100-yards with the Sako brake.
Are you using a different ammo and/or bullet weight?
I don't want to insult you, or your intellegence, but are you holding the rifle firmly when shooting i.e. loading the bipod, butt of the stock placed in the pocket of your shoulder, etc? If not, that could possibly be the cause of your POI shift.

We know recoil begins at ignition. If the displaced air rushing forward is neutralized by the brake only the accelerating mass of the bullet is causing recoil. If you are shooting prone in the normal way any rearward movement in the rifle will cause the muzzle to climb. With a reduction in recoil (prior to bullet exit) the rifle moves less, hence the lower POA.

I have no POI shift with and without the brake on my 20" TRG-22.
No idea why your POI shift ... maybe double-check to make sure it's not too loose or tight? Remove & reinstall? Check the brake to make sure something isn't misaligned & causing the bullet to graze the inside edge of the brake?

Has the crown of your rifle barrel changed? Was your barrel threaded for the break? If so, The crown can throw the bullet off. Can you remove the break and shoot a group back to back with and without it on?

I can put 10 shots in a .5 moa group easily at 100 yards. The POI shift perplexes me...
