I received my rifle yesterday and took it to the local range this evening to test drive her. I'll have to admit that while I have fired probably 10-12K rounds from AR's and pistols in the last 6 months, I have not fired a bolt action rifle since I earned my rifle merit badge in Boy Scouts w/ a .22LR nearly 20 years ago.
First off Ozzie Suarez is a great guy, he has treated me very well despite me purchasing the rifle at or near cost. The rifle fit and finish is as nice as it comes, you can tell he put some serious time and energy into this rifle. Suarez Tactical is definitely on my short list for future custom rifles or gunsmithing.
I purchased the rifle here on the Hide--below are the specs:
1. Trued Remington 700 action
2. PTG bolt with sako extractor
3. Badger bolt knob
4. Tubbs recoil lug
5. Bartlein stainless, .308, 1 in 11, 19.5", chambered with JGS palma 308 reamer, # 8 contour
6. H&S Precision removable mag bottom metal
7. Jewell Trigger set at 1.5 lbs.
8. Leupold 20 MOA base bedded to action
9. McMillan HTG stock, adjustable comb, pillar bedded, 1 inch decelerator pad, 13 1/2 inch LOP, 70% tan,30% black
10. Finished in flat black Cerakote,
11. Leupold MARK 4 high rings
12. Leupold MARK 4 4.5-14X50 w/ M1 knobs and TMR reticle
13. Harris 6-9" Swivel Bipod
I am very impressed with the stock and the trigger on this rifle, and the Leupold didn't seem to miss a beat (we'll see if it holds up when I beat on it some).
I fired 3 rounds to roughly sight the rifle in, then put up the first target, which is all five round groups. The first three groups (#1Center, #2Bottom left, and #3Top Left) I was still working on my cheek weld, adjusting the stock, and playing with the magnification on the scope, I even put a couple clicks of elevation and windage between #2 & #3 so a lot of the variation is me. The next two targets (#4Bottom left & #5Top Left) were shot without any adjustments.
The second target consists of two 10 round groups, the first one is the center target and the second is the bottom right corner. Group #1 was good until the 8th shot, that flyer is all mine (the guy next to me let loose with his SBR, you can see some of his frag ended up in my target). I hand selected the ammo for the second 10 round group.
All groups were shot at 100yds with FGMM 168gr.
I plan to take it out to 200yds next week, and then will stretch my legs once this new 1000+yd range opens. My overall impressions of this rifle's performance and looks are very positive, I am still not sure about the bolt action thing but with performance like this I think it will grow on me.
