I received my rifle yesterday and took it to the local range this evening to test drive her. I'll have to admit that while I have fired probably 10-12K rounds from AR's and pistols in the last 6 months, I have not fired a bolt action rifle since I earned my rifle merit badge in Boy Scouts w/ a .22LR nearly 20 years ago.

First off Ozzie Suarez is a great guy, he has treated me very well despite me purchasing the rifle at or near cost. The rifle fit and finish is as nice as it comes, you can tell he put some serious time and energy into this rifle. Suarez Tactical is definitely on my short list for future custom rifles or gunsmithing.

I purchased the rifle here on the Hide--below are the specs:

1. Trued Remington 700 action
2. PTG bolt with sako extractor
3. Badger bolt knob
4. Tubbs recoil lug
5. Bartlein stainless, .308, 1 in 11, 19.5", chambered with JGS palma 308 reamer, # 8 contour
6. H&S Precision removable mag bottom metal
7. Jewell Trigger set at 1.5 lbs.
8. Leupold 20 MOA base bedded to action
9. McMillan HTG stock, adjustable comb, pillar bedded, 1 inch decelerator pad, 13 1/2 inch LOP, 70% tan,30% black
10. Finished in flat black Cerakote,
11. Leupold MARK 4 high rings
12. Leupold MARK 4 4.5-14X50 w/ M1 knobs and TMR reticle
13. Harris 6-9" Swivel Bipod

I am very impressed with the stock and the trigger on this rifle, and the Leupold didn't seem to miss a beat (we'll see if it holds up when I beat on it some).

I fired 3 rounds to roughly sight the rifle in, then put up the first target, which is all five round groups. The first three groups (#1Center, #2Bottom left, and #3Top Left) I was still working on my cheek weld, adjusting the stock, and playing with the magnification on the scope, I even put a couple clicks of elevation and windage between #2 & #3 so a lot of the variation is me. The next two targets (#4Bottom left & #5Top Left) were shot without any adjustments.

The second target consists of two 10 round groups, the first one is the center target and the second is the bottom right corner. Group #1 was good until the 8th shot, that flyer is all mine (the guy next to me let loose with his SBR, you can see some of his frag ended up in my target). I hand selected the ammo for the second 10 round group.

All groups were shot at 100yds with FGMM 168gr.

I plan to take it out to 200yds next week, and then will stretch my legs once this new 1000+yd range opens. My overall impressions of this rifle's performance and looks are very positive, I am still not sure about the bolt action thing but with performance like this I think it will grow on me.

Nice looking rig, Remmy is trying to get into the match .308 ammo market and my Savage 10 FCP-K liked it better than FGMM.

YMMV but never hurts to try.

I had some in my hand the other day at Cabelas, but put it back after reading some reviews on my Iphone. I am going to run some Hornady ammo through it this weekend to see how those do, maybe I'll pick up a box of Remington match at the same time. All in all I am not even a little dissapointed in the first performance from this rifle. The rifle, even with this ammo is capable of smaller groups, I just have to shoot them...

Nice looking rifle. You should get brownie points for shooting those kinds of groups at Red's. I have not been to the one up north, but I can't shoot worth a darn at the one down south. I have decided that I will never shoot rifles there again. Most of the time my target gets stuck at 100 yards or gets shot off by bouncing bullets. Luckily, I have a deer lease close by that I can shoot out to 1,000 yards.

Re: Suarez Tactical Rifle Range Report W/ Pics

It's always tough to shoot indoors because the lighting is terrible. I just think of it as wind compensation (not that anything but heavy wind matters @ 100). You can see shrapnel wounds in my second target, and yes the target got stuck, but we discovered that if you send the next positions target down at full speed once it hits it frees the other target. Ridiculous I know, but I was unable to find a lease and I'll only be stationed in Austin another 10 months, so I make do. Hopefully this new 1000yd range will work until my transfer.

By the way my last duty station's training range was a trailer with terrible lighting, after that I feel like I'm outside in the sunshine while at Red's.
