I've got one of the SRT Integral 77/44's coming in with the Douglas 11 5/8", 1:11 Twist barrel and I need to try and work up some loads to see what the gun likes best. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Subsonic .44 magnum loads?

What kind of bullets do you want to shoot?

My suggestion would be to get the heaviest 44 bullets you can find. I know 300 XTP's exist, I've made 460gr lead ones from a 500gr mould designed for 45 cal and then individually turned 20 thou off each bullet, sized and seated a gas check.

Look at Red Dot for a powder to use. It's very fast, and some people find it to be very dirty. In a suppressed, slow application like this it is surprisingly clean burning.

Start with them being supersonic and work backwards.

In my revolver I can shoot 240 LRN @ 1000fps with about 11gr of Unique. It goes supersonic from my dad's 20" barreled handi-rifle combo gun.

Re: Subsonic .44 magnum loads?

I've gotten several reloading manuals to work from but have this question, should I start with the pitsol loads and work forward or work backward from the rifle loads? I'm new to reloading so, any advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Subsonic .44 magnum loads?

Since you're running an 11+" barrel, you are 3" longer than the pistol loads. Most 44 mag rifle loads are with an 18". So, I'd lean to the pistol data. I'd add about 30-50 fps for the extra barrel length over the pistol data. That will get you close to figure out the velocity with the powder you plan to use.
