300 blk 208 amax load

Here are my specs for reliable cycling:
Cmmg 8.0" barrel
H2 buffer, standard m16 bcg (Mobil1 synthetic 5w-30 for lube)
AAC SDN-6 can

208 amax lc cut down brass
CCI 400 primer
Hodgdon Lil Gun 8.2 gr
2.135 oal with med crimp

1050 +-25 fps

**NOTE the gas port on the factory cmmg barrel is .093. This is not sufficient to cycle with this can/load/powder. I enlarged gas port to .109 (7/64 bit in drill press) to get 100% reliable cycling, and it does not overpressure the 110 gr Barnes factory loads.

Use/modify at your own risk.

I see guys posting 150 RN over 9+ grains of trail boss going subsonic. I just loaded 7.9 grains and I am still supersonic. This is out of a 20" barrel, 1:12. Frustrated as all hell

Do you live at a higher elevation? That's a very relevant piece of information, and I don't see a lot of posters sharing that.

Here's my 9mm subsonic load. Its stupid quite, light recoiling and very accurate.

I tried it with some Hornady 150 fmj (3037). It was only around 25% case fill, which made me a little nervous. I can't recommend it for 308. Trail Boss
or N32C (Tin Star) will be your best options.

The 150 rn has a flat base that helps with the 1:12 twist. Did not keyhole, and works great suppressed.

Getting ready to load my first subs. My can come in 45 days does the below look okay?

DPMS Recon GII

Trail Boss start at 9.0 work up to 10.4
2.800 COAL

So I test with no can for speed and to make sure they are not tumbling correct?

I would start high and work low. You don’t want anything stuck in your barrel. What’s your twist rate?

1:10 twist do I need to still flasholes out?
I’ve never had to open up or use a flash hole deburring tool. Shoot your paper at distance to see when it will keyhole. The more you shoot the better (50-100). If you don’t get perfect circles, you may need to increase velocity or choose another bullet.

You didn't mention it, so I'll jump in for good measure.

After working down to your desired velocity with a chrono and the suppressor OFF the rifle, set up a paper target 5yds downrange and put a few rounds into it, spacing them apart a few inches. Look for any out of round holes before attaching the can.

Keyholing at distance will be bad for accuracy. Keyholing at the muzzle is bad for accuracy and your suppressor.

I've done this for every subsonic load I've worked up in a number of different calibers and rifles and have had no issues with baffle strikes.

Thanks for doing the leg work for me. Have same rifle.

this thread is awesome but a mess!

i just started loading for my FN SPR with 1/10 twist 24 bbl. 308. using my ultra 7 30cal (no i did not shoot them with the can on it initially)

i started from the only manual i saw from hodgedon. i used 155 palma bullets and 12 grains of trailboss then 11 grains.

12 was going 1436 AV
11 was 1357 AV

i have a ton of 190's to try. i think i'll start with 11 grains and then try 10.

I’d go right to 10.0 with the 190s personally, but I’ll bet you end up around 9.5gr. With a 20” barrel 10.0gr was a bit fast still, so I went to 9.5gr. Same barrel at 16” gives me around 1050fps with moly’d 170gr FP and 10.0gr.

same rifle no can:
10 grains with a 190SMK= 1102

9.5 grains 190 SMK= 1043.

next trip i'll have to load 9.5 again and verify with the ultra 7 on

Never heard if Maker bullets. Just looked over their sight, the subsonic expanding bullets look interesting. Have you used any of the .224 bullets or only the
308.

Also, besides Trailboss. Unique makes a good 223 subsonic load. My data:

20in barrel 223 savage 110

LC brass
55gr SP
Unique 4.0 gr
COL : 2.20

Just .308. I never really saw a need to load .224 cartridges subsonic. Didn’t really feel I would gain much over 22lr. I’ve killed a pile of hogs and deer with 200 grain makers. Can’t say enough good about them.

Light weight 308 loads

I skimmed through but the lightest I saw was 150gr

I want to try 125gr in 308 / 10 twist. Anyone tried that setup? Any thouhhts?

I would be carful trying to push that light of a bullet at subsonic speeds with that much case capacity. 300 blackout is another story. 4 grains of trailboss and a 125 out of a 300 blackout is pretty sweet.

Aac 762 sdn can.

12.1gr Cfeblk , 220g rnfb hornady interlock, cci 400.
Neck tension is 0035-004 and a medium crimp, ( also used in a sbr).

Not a lot of measurable difference between brass yet.

Cold 40 degree rainy day at 750 altitude, 1015 fps.
A bit slow but will not crack in 100 degree heat. I do need a hot day crono test to see if I can go more on powder.

Its running at 1 moa in the bolt gun.

Found Maker bullets after seeing this thread, so thanks for that. So glad I did. These things are slick. Between these, Barnes, and LeHigh, I’m set. Pictured below is the Maker 125 grain BLK high velocity fracturing and 200 grain sub-sonic expanding. These will be used in both a shorty bolt action and AR 10.5” pistol. I’m considering deer hunting with the Maker subs this season.

Edited to add: I’ve had best accuracy with 125 TNT’s using 18 grains of H110 and 296, but haven’t shot the 125 Makers yet. Used 6.0 - 6.5 grains of Titegroup for the 200 grainer out of the bolt action for Hollywood quite. I’ve got CFE BLK to try with the pistol when it gets completed. With the LAW folding stock adapter and TBAC U7 it should make a handy little side kick.

I’ve killed a pile of animals with 200gr subsonic makers. Including deer, big hogs, and a cow I processed. Anyone that says subsonic ammo is not ethical has clearly never shot makers. Paul (the owner) is a great guy to deal with as well.

Agreed. I got a nice doe this past fall with the Maker 200 gr sub. It ran into a fence about 25 yards away and piled up. Another younger doe was standing beside her and she never moved after the shot broke.

I'm with you guys all the way on the Makers. I'm pushing the 220 rex at 1000 fps and getting 2" at 100yds. I have only taken three deer with them. Two crumbled up on the spot and the third jumped, stood for 5 seconds, took about 3 steps and laid down. Question: how many times did you do the water jug test? I've got 6 perfectly peeled 220 grainers sitting on my shelf LOL. Looking to try the Lehigh Defense 176 gr. controlled fracturing as well. They look nasty but we'll see.

What is your load with the 220 Makers?
I'm running 12.1 cfeblk over 220 rnfb hornady interlocks.

Accuracy is great but no expansion. Great for cns shots 50 - 100 yds on stationary targets with patience but nothing else.

I'm shooting these from my 16" Ruger 300 Blackout Bolt gun with 11.5 grains of CFE-BLK, CCI-400 primer and Hornady brass. They are loaded to the crimp groove with a light crimp. I've tested this bullet on water jugs at 25 yards and 75 yards and can't tell the difference between the bullets. They all look like the examples on Maker's website. Hope this helps.

I should add that this rifle has a 7 twist. The Maker 220 Rex is LONG bullet so try it without the can first.
