Hi,

Re:- Accuracy International AW 308 Covert 1-9 Twist 16 inch barrel Integral Suppressor

Some of you on this forum must either have this rifle in this configuration or know someone who does ?

I would just like to find a really good supersonic accuracy load ? Subsonic, no problem. But supersonic I finding best 1 inch groups at 50 yards in testing with 200gr Sierra SMK, pretty disappointing. I am concerned the rifle in this configuation is not going to provide greatly satisfying supersonic accuracy.

Just try a 175gr load...

I shot this last week with a Covert, using factory 175gr ammo

Same thing the shooter claimed questionable accuracy with supersonic ammo.

The problem was getting it hot, you can't "shoot" the covert like that, not its mission.

A Covert is a speciality rifle, not a target rifle. If you want target style accuracy, change the barrel. Or shoot less rounds... that should included the fictional "cold bore" so here we had a rifle stacking them into sub MOA groups at 100 yards. After about 20 rounds, they begin to open up because of the suppressor.

Hi Lowlight,

So, your group in the picture is a full power supersonic load at 100 yards ? Thats great. As luck would have it, I have Sierra heads in 308 SMK at 135gr, 150gr, 168gr, 200gr, 220gr and 240gr. The 175gr SMK I don't have, but that was to be my next choice. It's a shame the 168gr nor the 200gr SMK does not work so well in this barrel supersonic as I have a whole bunch.

I was pleased to made a 3 shot 1 inch group subsonic with 10.5 gr Trail Boss at 159 yards. Zero wind. Using 200 gr SMK.

I've just made a post in the gunsmithing section, on this rifle, perhaps you would like to take a look and comment ? Its about rebating 338 Lapua to fit a 308 bolt face.
