Suppressors Suppressor price

Re: Suppressor price

The price of the licensure involved is very high and most people don't have the equipment to build one from a Form 1. This coupled with the fact that you have a long waiting period to get one and a ridiculous tax involved with it makes them high overhead items, even though they're really quite simple devices.

And they're also sexy as can be... once you have one you'll want more...

Re: Suppressor price

I'm only guessing here, but because I manufacture as well I bet it's the same. The materials involved are pennies on the dollar, but the research, intellectual property, testing, and amortization of manufacturing components add to the price.

I have a product that I make and sell for around 1 dollar, but only costs me 18 cents to make. I will still have to sell over 100,000 to break even on research, design, IP, molds to make a profit.

Re: Suppressor price

Probably also a matter of numbers. Without a government or LE contract, it seems like it would be very hard to sell large numbers of suppressors. If they only made $30 or even $100 they wouldn't be able to stay in business unless suppressors was just a side gig. How many people are willing to got through the cost, paperwork, and wait for a suppressor? 1 in 10,000? This means they have to make more per suppressor. Bigger companies like SF and AAC have huge costs in manufacturing equipment to put out the number of suppressors they do.

Lone guy in a shop selling one-offs needs to charge a lot to make his time and effort worthwhile and to stay in business selling only a few.

Big companies charge a lot to keep up with their payments on the CNC machines.

Just my $.02
