Re: Suppressor wraps
Thank you for the support guys, we appreciate it a lot.
Koz, that's about how things usually work when a custom order is placed. Sometimes it takes a little longer due to work loads, but that's how we try to operate.
Twisted, you probably won't have any problems with a mag, or two at the most, with mag dumps, but like KYS338 said these covers were created more for mirage problems than to be a heat shield. We have a lot of customers who do exactly what you do, dump a mag or two, and get away with it. If you don't give the can time to cool though, your third mag is probably going to cause problems and melt the cover. If you have a SAS2 model do NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT, attempt to slide the cover either forward or rearward after you've just fired a string and the can is hot. This model is designed to be left on the can. Any attempt to slide the can either back or forward on a hot can will result in your burning through the Cordura and shock cord, that is sewn into either end of the cover, before you can get it off of the can.
It's taking longer than I was lead to believe when we started but we are currently working with an outfit that is testing some prototypes for us that hopefully we can state that they're rated as a full auto cover, or at least an "X" number of mags on rapid semi auto. The outside will still get hot, because you have to let the heat out or you will damage the can, but it'll be better than having hot metal brush up against you or your gear. When we get something finalized we'll be letting everyone know so please don't start calling and wanting to place an order for one at this time.
TDT, I would recommend the SAS3 model for your .308. It's easy to install, easy to slide back onto the barrel to let the can cool, and easy to slide back onto the barrel when you're ready to shoot again.
