I recently purchased my first silencer as well, however I’ve been shooting them for some time now. I found the most useful information about real sound suppression (not just peak db) on
www.PewScience.com. Jay created the industry standard for silencer testing and presents it very well so the consumer can make a informed decision.
I would suggest you also listen to his podcast, The Jay Situation, episode 40. He talks in detail about his evaluation of the RC2 and the new Hyperion and Hyperion K from CGS as they are distinct performance outliers in today’s silencer market.
Having shot quite a lot through Surefire's line of silencers I can say that their mounts, while extremely durable, leak gas and carbon buildup is a significant issue. Just something to consider. I am of the opinion that direct thread with a 25° taper will serve 99% of people best.
I’d encourage you to deep dive into Jay’s podcast and PewScience.com, be realistic with your silencer use parameters and needs, then purchase based on your findings.
I landed on the CGS Hyperion K to go on my Fix. Which was a change for me as I originally was looking at the Half Nelson from Q or the TBAC Ultra 7 gen2, but the data from Jay was indisputably in favor of the Hyperion K performance.
Good luck!
