Suppressors Sure Fire 308 can

Re: Sure Fire 308 can

Both of them are great suppressors. SOCOM decided to go with the 762K and the Marine Corps went with the 762SS so either of them will serve you well.

Do you have any more details on your build? Contour, is it going on any other rifles anything?

Re: Sure Fire 308 can

I've been looking at surefire cans and don't know the difference between those too. The dealer I'm using said "He doesn't like Surefire cans" but also gave no reason as to why.

Chucky, how you like the SF cans? I got out of STA before we got cans.

Cool thanks

Re: Sure Fire 308 can

Rather than start a new thread on this, I wanted to clarify what I've been researching on cans...I'm brand new to them, but got a chance to shoot a rifle equipped with one and am hooked.

In looking at the Surefires, do I need to have their brake MB762SSAL/RE (or variant) in order to attach their FA762SS can?

I have a clone-ish M40A5 so I'm running a 20" Bartelein M40 contour barrel. I'm leaning towards TBAC's 30P-1 or this Surefire.

Re: Sure Fire 308 can

Yes, you need the SF muzzle brake to attach their suppressors, there is no other mounting method. Like other posters have stated, the SS overlaps the barrel, and needs 2.75" of clearance behind the muzzle. The "K" variant does not require the clearance, but it also adds more length onto the barrel.

For reference, here's my 762SS, mounted to an 18.5" barrel. Hope this helps.

Re: Sure Fire 308 can

Great, thanks for that! I just finished reading the thread about QD vs. thread-on...lots of good info there. I didn't realize there were so many brand suppressors out there...more homework.

I'm leaning towards a thread on, but would like a break as well. How do you like your setup Lazlo?

With all the SureFire suppressors you will need to run one of our adaptors because that is what the suppressor locks onto. The current issue M40A5 is using the MB762SSAL/RE and the FA762SS-BK suppressor. That being said the MK13 is going to be fielded shortly with the FA762K suppressor so both suppressors are great so you will be fine with either.

Re: Sure Fire 308 can

Thanks for that info Chuck. Is there any difference/advantage to the over the barrel or end of barrel design other than length? Finally, when one buys the suppressor, does it come with the break/adapter, or is that sold separately?

Re: Sure Fire 308 can

A lot of guys think the 762SS has less of a shift than the K because of weight being closer to the action. I haven't done enough testing to say 100% but it might be true. It is repeatable though. The adaptors are sold seperately because of so many options with thread patterns and so forth.
