surgeon action variants?

I am picking up a used GAP with a surgeon 591R action.

It is a. 308.
I know there are long and short actions.
are there variations in the surgeon. Actions? is so, what are they?

Yes. There are serial numbers beginning with A, B, or C in the 591 (short action). Each action serial number starting with a certain letter had a modification from the previous one. I have a B serial #, and IIRC, the mod was something to do with the bolt. The mods were very minor in nature. Maybe Wade or Preston can shime in for the exact differences. I know if you called Surgeon, they could tell you specifically what those mods were.
