I have read some on this but what are the real diffrences if any? My plan for build are:

-Surgeon RSR or 591 Action
-Surgeon 20 Moa Rail
-Mcree Precision "Tactical" Folding Stock
-Fluted Bartlein or Rock Creek Barrel @ 18.5"
-Surefire Brake
-Custom Trigger (Don't know which one yet)

I figure both will be more accurate then I am but is one more durable than the other or less prone to failure. Is one smotther than the other? Trying to keep the build right at $3,000. I'm leaning towards the RSR but wanted to ask anyway.

Finally got the search function to work and found some stuff. People seem to like their RSR so I think thats what I will go with.

Feel free to post comments on ideas about the build or if you like the 591 better.

Re: Surgeon RSR vs. 591

The integral lug / rail on the 591 are a nice feature. But, the rail for the RSR is double pinned, has a recoil lug, and uses 4 #8-36 screws... it ain't going anywhere!!! The recoil lug is also double pinned. I don't see any practical difference between the two as far as the rail / lug go.

I opted for a RLR for my 338 Edge build. I'm still waiting on the barrel but the action looks real nice and I'm happy with the choice. Also if it makes any difference to you, RSR / RLR are stainless, 591 / 1086 / 1581 are CM steel. I wanted a matte stainless finish on my build so the RLR was the clear choice.

I have the CG extreme tactical trigger on my 591. It will fit, you may have to remove about 4thou of metal with a file. I only did this after talking with the guy who manufactured these (its what he told me to do).

One thing I will note on the 4, 591's that I have is the rail has been near perfect for alingment on all of them....two required zero windage adjustment and the other two only needed two clicks to get to center when sighting in.

I had the same experience with mine I only made 3/4MOA adjustment on the windage on my "new from the factory" Nightforce..... A lot has to be said for the Smith who barreled the action for me too!
