I really respect the guys on here who have forgotten more about this stuff than I'll ever know. I need your expertese and opinions. I have a chance to buy a Surgeon Scalpel. As far as I can tell it has VERY little wear. The AIC has no wear around the thumbhole, the bore looks great although I didn't scope it. Looking at the Surgeon website the rifle starts at $3975. This one has these options: Accuracy International Chassie $283, Barrel flutes $175, Jewel Trigger $145 and the WSM action $75. It is .300 WSM. Total on this rifle new would be $4,643. What would be a "fair" price for me to pay for this rifle? Thanks in advance for your responses,

Re: Surgeon Scalpel ???? Need help!!!!!!

I paid $4350 for mine new from Surgeon 08', chambered .300wsm with virtually identical features. Only difference was a McM A5 stock and additional mag. I've seen them spuradically for sale on various sites for $3800-$4500 depending on equipment.

I haven't seen many for sale, and I've been looking for a Remedy in .338 Lapua to replace a TRG 42. Given the number of sticks they produce, and few you see for sale, I think it's a great indication their customers rarely sell....I'm just about to pull trigger on a new one.

I just sent mine back to surgeon for a rebarrel (22" fluted heavy palma 1-10 twist) and rechamber to .308 win and installation of Bager forwad NV rail. The rebarrel was inexpensive (685$)installed). Their service has been insanely good, and the turn around time for a larger operation is impressive.

I'd say make the Seller an offer, but if you want a great quality stick, you really can't go wrong. If you have concerns on the bore, it's not to painful to replace....

Re: Surgeon Scalpel ???? Need help!!!!!!

If it is set up like you want it than it will be worth every penny. If you have to spend a bunch more to get it just right for you - it will be worth every penny! The Surgeon Scalpel is a great product made in the USA by talented and honest craftsmen that offer excellent customer support and stand by every product they sell.

If you paid near the original purchase price you would not be losing money but saving 6-12 weeks of waiting for a custom build (not sure of their current wait times). If you can work out a good deal, even better.
