Surreal, Bssspro, Dicks sporting gun racks very empty

Went by Basspro and Dicks to pick up a cheap 700 as a donor to end to LRI to get a new 308 built, the gun racks were empty-ish. Seems the Remmys recall has definately taken a toll on the stores, nobody was in the gun section, still no powder, they did have some 175 SMK's for $40 a box. I left the store empty handed and now considering picking up my first custom action.

The local Bass Pro has signs up stating that they have pulled all Remington 700s from the shelves due to the trigger recall.

No Cabela's near you? Also, Brownell's usually has Remington 700 actions only. If that is all you are looking for, skip buying a whole rifle just for the donor action...

I'll add that the dicks rifles (ADL SS and ADL Varmint) have standard xmark triggera, not the pro which aren't even effected by the recall. Why they sent theirs back is beyond me.

No Cabela's near you? Also, Brownell's usually has Remington 700 actions only. If that is all you are looking for, skip buying a whole rifle just for the donor action...

Assuming you find one, a R700 under $499 seems like a great deal to me! Where I live, the cheapest I have ever seen one is $399 and that was a Black Friday special. I know some times Impact Guns does some decent sales on them also... Recall = No Bueno. Good luck to you sir!

Because Dick's has sucked lately and I've heard they're considering not selling firearms at all anymore.

That's not true at all. I know two corporate guys, one is the head of lodge departments across the country and the other is the firearms purchaser for my region. The lodge and firearms department isn't going anywhere. In fact they are opening a chain of field and stream stores that sell only outdoor sporting goods with massive hunting and shooting departments and more guns including the evil black rifles and pistols. The first one is already open in Pennsylvania.

If most of the Remington models are gone off the shelves, it won't take long for everything else there to go as well. Guy walks in looking for a Remington, will now walk out with a Savage, Tikka or other if he has the bug or need. We'll start seeing a shortage from all Manufactures soon if Remington takes a long time to turnaround those triggers. With a big player gone, the other manufactures will be trying to make up the slack.

Really? Well that's awesome! I live in a suburb of Chicago and I'm convinced the Dicks by me is run by Bloomberg himself! Hahaha I hope they do some of the new stores by me as there aren't many like that here.
