Hey guys, I know this is a little apple to oranges comparison, but trying to decide between these 2. Primary use is PRS/range but it will go hunting a few times a year (probably 7-10 times/year).
I like the option of having a reticle for the PRS side in the STR but can’t get over the BTX for hunting. I’m out west where our hunting land is literally as far as you can see.
I’m leaning BTX, just worried that 30x is too much mag.

Any input would be great. Is anyone using the BTX for PRS?

    Thanks!

Where out west will you be hunting? I have the STR60 and really enjoy it, I previously had a ATS 65 and the glass is comparable but you give up some weight but gain the reticle. As far as the BTX goes I would say if you are concerned more about finding the best animal possible hunting over a having the chance to call shot corrections based on MIL or MOA then I would go BTX all the way. I have not heard a bad thing about it yet and wish I had the funds to pick one up.

I am out west as well and hunt some fairly open terrain and using my 25-50 wide angle eye piece it does fairly well, now if I was on a guided hunt and only had X number of days to hunt I again would figure out a way to take a BTX and let myself sit on glass as long as possible to find whatever I was looking for.

I hunt in California, no guides hunts, just me and a few buddies. I’m not as concerned with weight because where we normally go, we only hike in about 2 miles to setup on top of a peak that let’s us see everything below us is basically 360* and we stay at that position with tripods glassing until we see something to cause us to move. We are very lucky to have found the spot we currently hunt.

I guess I’m really weighing reticle for PRS vs the 1 eyepiece vs ultimate comfort spotting vs no reticle.
