Thoughts? I'm replacing a failed Leatherwood uni-dial. I loved the no math mil feature and elevation flags, but apparently the .338 RUM is to much for it.

My brother is using the SWFA 10x fixed on a .308, but I like having a variable scope. Is the Millett worth it?

Millet=typical Chinese low dollar scope...The buyer is pretty much the QC inspector. Honestly, you have rifle that is going to be very hard on scopes. The SS will stand up to just about anything, but I would choose either the 12x or 16x.

I thought the Millett was Japanese.

I'm thinking 20x because I mostly target shoot, 2 liter bottles and such. Do you recomend the 16x for quality reasons? I usually stayed around 20-24x when I shot the Leatherwood. I'm typically prone and using bags.

Not to mention mirage at higher powers and extended ranges. 12x or 16x would serve you much better, IMO.

Between the SS and the Millet... there is NO comparison. I will have to admit, I owned a Millet for 1 whole day. I have owned several of the SS scopes, in the MOA/MIL versions. I have only owned 1 MIL/MIL SS, and that was the 5-20.

The SS scopes are built like a tank, and are definitely worth the money. The 16XSS should serve you better in the optical area due to the image being brighter, a bonus you will appreciate. I agree with you that the 10X isn't enough magnification, especially for my eyes. However, the 20X is honestly too much in a fixed scope.

The SS scopes resale value is second to none. Millet... not so much. YMMV.

I have a 20x ss moa/mil dot and it's alright. I wish the eye box was more forgiving on it. I would go 16x or 12x if I had it to do over.
