The last 13th of August in Rothenthurm I attended with other 17 team to the Swiss Gallinago Trophy 2011, sniper tactical competition for military/law enforcement and qualified civilian team, briefing at 6.45 AM, total 24 stages till 18.00 PM.
Time was very important not only for every single stage time management but also from one stage to the other... for the first 10 stages the allowed time was from 7 A.M to 11.45.
No possibility for external help all your equipment with you, 150 .308 rounds and 50 rounds for pistol mine was .45 ACP.
rifle, water, same snaks, vest to load everythings, range finder, kestrel, ballistic back up table, spotting scope with tripod, ghillie suit and maintanance kit.

if you are not able to maintain a good average during transfer you could go over time.

first stage cold bore shots, 5 shots at 300 meters with electronic control, 15 minutes for the exercise, to reach the shooting place about 600 meters with the last 200 meters in a very steep climb, 5 shoots and then other 250 meters to reach the end place, in descend but was sleepy and and steep.

in this stage 4 minutes preparation time, the sniper must be in contact with spotter only with headset with radio and mic, same thing search and hit 3 target in 2 minutes, but no picture available only a write description like, male, black, no hair, blonde women with glasses ecc ecc.
one target it at 450 meters..... with my 12x is impossible to see clearly the target, also the moving steel target are veri small 25x25 cm.

camouflage

15 minutes to hide, then 6/7 observer with 8x start to search, you have to look one person that show some alfanumeric code, one at time, you have to be able to take a shot, the walkers reach my position in a range of 10 m, and then in 3 meters, I was not detected, I was only at 75 meters from my target... my ghillie from Tactical concealment was pretty good.

in the red square was my concealed position

Re: Swiss Gallinago trophy 2011

other exercise, you have to shoot to a very small red circle, you have to search in 30 seconds

video.... my friend is about 95 kg.....

In the long distance stage... 650 meters you have to do in 7 minutes with all your stuff a run on a 300 meters very steep clim, find your 4 steel moving target, laser the distance and shot and then go down to the start position, this was a perfect stage for me... 4 shots 4 hit....... wind was about 10 km/h fom 9 o'clock .... only 7 person complete with maximum score this stage

fire on line...150, 200, 250 m......but you have to hit very small, small target sub moa for every target, time limit and before every stage something to do, low crawl with all your staff, run, weak position ecc ecc.....

Unfornately for all the match I experienced a magazine load issue, so I had load every shot manually one at time... I was 13th in the match, but was a very beautiful experience.
The organization was perfect.....Swiss made.

Re: Swiss Gallinago trophy 2011

From what we have experienced many times our skills & gear are second to none , only the age & few spare kilos give us some disadvantages in very phisical matches like this one ,but for the next year's one we 'll be back in good shape again , we'll work hard next winter , uh brother ?

Another one year is passed way and here we are again to go attending the new Gallinago 2013 challenge , this year we will be three teams from the SKIRITAI LEGACY shooting assoc., our training and preparation was intense in the last 5 months, the gears & stuff are ready , the rifles already zeroed , we just need to check everything out another one time from the check list and tomorrow very early in the morning we are going to leave home with destination Switzerland , let's hope to have fair winds and following seas !

Stay safe,
