Tac Ops Rifles

It's a pretty good day when your 20+ year dream comes to reality.
The first contact I made with Mike I explained how his rifles were my screensaver on the home computer growing up, and the sniper's hide reviews of his rifles was all I read..over and over! I always knew I would have one, and finally the time is here (literally 20 some years later). For starters, I can't imagine what else he would do to make this action even nicer?... this is my first surgeon I've fondled and it's fantastic (dare I compare it to my lone peak? I think fit and finish are on par, though I went DLC for my lone peak).
I cannot wait to see the absolute hammer he will make for me. I also had to get the matching Tac Ops suppressor because...well..how could you not?

Thanks for being an awesome guy, Mike.

Whoa! Mike must have a PILE of “phoenix,az” surgeons!

Congrats! Looking forward to your groups, start stocking T308T while you wait.

Well I finally found some T308T to play with! what seems to be the benefit with T308T compared to FGMM or TAP?
I thought Mike went over it briefly that they suit his reamer tighter than fgmm, but I forget things quickly.
Is this experience noticeable with factory rifles too?

I've wanted to try some TAP as well, but Federal always seems to be consistent for my uses more than Hornady. in fact, the factory round that blew the firing pin out of my Remington 700 was Hornady, so maybe im just bitter. 🤣

Everything hornady has gone downhill since Covid, not that it was even as good as fgmm in the first place.

I bought some T308T and FGMM 175 with the Seirra Match King bullet and the 175 shot better out of my Delta 51. Not by much but it did group better so that's what I've been stock piling.

Anyone ever shoot a deer with the T308T? Didn't think to use it for hunting. Was trying to load a soft point for that purpose.

i mean its a freakin ballistic tip bullet doing 2650 at the muzzle, 168 grains, im certain its hell on deer. id use it in a heartbeat.

my wife shot her last deer with a 180 nosler partition out of the Tango. hammered him

What is everyones favorite bore guide nowdays? My old "go-to" are no longer in business. (Lucas, Noland-> Wagner)
Possum Hollow. You can call them to get them to make versions with an integral solvent port.

I’m not a fan of the Lucas/PMA style (I own a bunch of Lucas). The insert adds extra steps and fooling around.

Theoretically, the Lucus style can guide the rod a little better as the insert can be sized closer to the rod diameter. However, this closer sizing disallows pushing a patch through the insert. This has implications on workflow, detailed below.

Lucas:
  1. Grab cleaning rod
  2. Slide bore guide insert over rod
  3. Insert bore guide into gun
  4. Add patch
  5. But don’t slide insert in, as that blocks the solvent port. So bobble the patch in the large-ish area under the solvent port and squirt solvent. Often the patch falls off as it is not well-contained or well-guided at this point.
  6. Stroke patch forward
  7. Pop insert in as patch nears chamber
  8. Continue stroking patch forward until patch falls off at muzzle
  9. On exit stroke, remember to simultaneously yank on insert to bring it along with rod. There is a strong detent that captures the insert; so this usually dislodges the bore guide from bore, so then you have to push the guide back in. Hopefully you have a straight shot at the bore (no stock interference) otherwise it’s another thing to navigate the much-thicker-than-the-rod-and-now-wet insert around.

Possum Hollow:
  1. Grab cleaning rod
  2. Insert bore guide into gun
  3. Add patch
  4. Slide patch in and squirt solvent through port
  5. Stroke patch forward until it falls off, then go backward and out.
In fact, with my Lucas guides I got frustrated enough that I cut the inserts off right after the detent (o-ring) so they now all work like a Possum. I use inserts sized larger than what came with the guide so I can push patches through them (i.e. 223 insert for 204).

This mod allows me to never remove the (shortened) insert and cleaning life is good.
