UPDATE - Just spoke with Mike and he said he'll be releasing his own DBM design later this year! A TacOps with custom DBM... It'll probably be out in late Summer time. I hope he'll be able to retro fit them...

Occasionally nice things happen to me. I was having dinner with MikeR of TacOps fame and some friends when he decided to show us a prototype of his new Stainless Steel 303 bottom metal design. I knew he'd been working on one but to see and feel the quality was something else. As usual with all things TacOps, it looked more organic than man-made and the pics don't really show off how well-made this thing is.

A close up. I really liked the domed top and rounded edges. It looks pretty amazing 'naked' and I could see it on a hunting or BR rifle as is.

And here it is in its TacOps Green-T glory. As usual, flawless fit and finish.I don't think you could get a razor blade between the metal and stock!

The unpainted vs painted version appear to be slightly different. Maybe its just that the front floorplate hinge mount was opened up a bit in the painted version.

Looks good. I really like how the stainless looks before paint.

Yeah I figured given that Mike's background and his being old school East Coast Italian, no-one's going to give him any grief. Unless they're wanting to sleep with da fish...!

In regards to the other question about how much, I'm guessing in the $300 range but you'd have to get that from him.

Until the LE/SWAT market starts asking for DBMs then it's not on his priority list unfortunately. Mike's main market are the 600+ agencies he supplies rifles for so that's what he sticks to.

Trust me it is very hard to keep myself from calling Mike. I find myself accepting more and more details these days to keep my mind of the build or perhaps to keep from going crazy!!!

Hensoldt 3-12 interchanged with a Premier 5-25 Gen2 XR
American Rifle M3 Rings (34mm lows)
Atlas V8 + MonoPod
TIS Quick Release sling.
All the FGMM in 168 & 175 I can get my hands on....

The answer is a few posts above.... but, it's because his main clientele are SWAT agencies and other alphabet outfits who don't need or want DBMs and so he doesn't do them. They're becoming more popular with civvies on account of competition shooting and it's something he's looking into but it's not a high priority item.

I hope he'll be able to retro fit them but he didn't say as he's still noodling the design... He wouldn't give me any clues but he said it'll be in line with the rest of what he builds - perfect!

He also confirmed why, currently, DBMs are not part of the standard TacOps line. With over 300 call outs by the SEB alone, last year in LA, there was never a need for a DBM platform. I"m just glad he listens to us civvies.

Guy I have had this conversation with Mike many times.

Most of his customer base is LE SWAT/HRT types and for most part the idea is multiple snipers per target without getting into training/deployment details. This means likelyhod a LE/HRT Sniper will shoot multiple rounds is very very slight. He builds to what his base customer needs are. So he primarily uses steal HD bottom metal with five round internal capacity.

With that said he is bringing out a DBM of his own design sometime this year, so it will be an option.

I never needed more than five rds as a LE Sniper but see no fault in having a DBM. The DBM has become the norm for military operations and civy matches so hopefully he will have his version out sooner than later.

Tac Ops will be making a DM for the shooters that require the need for one. I have been working on several prototypes and until one satisfies the Tac Ops Team we will not put it out on the market. I can assure you all that unless it is perfect it will not be released

You are so right Carter. I'm thinking perhaps a "Tango" would be a great addition.....something simple along the lines of the lightest fill stock, no Anschutz rail, and the shortest barrel possible with the new DBM would be a hard all around combo to beat. Get me put down for the first one Mike!
