I picked up a couple tactical iPhone cases at last week's SAR Show. These are the 2nd generation cases from Magpul. Nice pattern on the back makes it resemble a Pmag. And it comes in cool colors. Mine is olive drab, the wife's is pink. Even the wife likes hers (which surprised me - she's not a gun person).

They're not waterproof, but for $10 each, they should give "oops" protection against dropping on the floor. Not bulky either. Gives a good grip (without a case, the iPhone 4S is slippery making it easy to drop). And did I mention they look COOL?

The second pic shows the large lip which protects the screen from rubbing against a flat surface (and also shows the awesome Shooter ballistic app).

Re: Tactical iPhone Cases FTW!

I have a gen one on mine, it's kept my phone from getting any serious damage so far.

BTW- is the 2nd gen clearanced better for the verizon mute button? I had to trim mine slightly because the AT&T one was the model for the first gen case and it is slightly different than the verizon.

Re: Tactical iPhone Cases FTW!

I've been looking at these, But I think I'm gonna go with the Ballistic one instead. This one looks good for like you say, oops. But I was watching the guys in the store throw their Iphone's around on a hard floor. I want a little better than oops protection.

From what I've been told... The 2nd generation is an accommodation for the ambient light sensor in the 4S. I highly doubt there is any difference in buttons among carriers. I have been wrong before.

Re: Tactical iPhone Cases FTW!

I have one of the above pictured cases on my iPhone 4 and I love it. I tried the Otterbox, the Otterbox Defender, and the Ballistic case and found none of them to my liking. The Magpul case is a perfect fit, IMO.

They are indeed different, if only slightly. I have a verizon one and a first gen magpul, hence why i asked. The case sometimes mutes my ringer by the rubber material pressing on the button.

No it's not. Protecting your investment for $10.00 is not bad at all.

Go look at the price of the otter box.... Now thats some serious cash for a phone case.

Re: Tactical iPhone Cases FTW!

I have used the otterbox on all 3 gen of my iphones and i work in auto dealership as a tech ,and have abused my phones and there has not been one issue with phones being droped on concrete .It is the only way to go to protect a higher end phone

I actually use my Smart phone as primary means of NAV in iraq... works better than my GPS with the software I have loaded on it... super bad ass. But i dont even have a case for it sadly. Just some high speed velcro. haha

Yeah, your right. Because it's retarded.

So let me get this straight. For some using any piece of gear in a combat setting makes it "tactical".

I'm glad I had my tactical MRE spork with me in Iraq then! Wouldn't want the stinky hadj getting their hands on that one!

My smartphone is probably the most advanced piece of tactical kit i use in iraq. As far as "tactical" case though... yeah thats kinda lame haha

Re: Tactical iPhone Cases FTW!

we didn't all buy them because they are tacticool. I happen to like that it's a $10 case so I won't feel bad if something happens to it. I also like that it is semi-grippy rubber, it makes the phone easy to hang on to. As much as these stupid phones cost, I fail to see how that's a bad thing.

I thought I was an abrasive person, you take things to a whole new level Trebek.

If it's not a tactical vagina you got it all wrong.

Re: Tactical iPhone Cases FTW!

Couple of questions for you all.

I have 3 different cases for my IP4, the Magpul, the OB and the Ballistic. I like the magpul however I have not found a way to clip it on a belt. Does anyone know of a case where I can use the magpul but carry it in a different case?

Also, for those that use a Magpul you're probably already aware but you must take it out frequently and clean it off. Down here in the south the condensation will build up and get trapped in the back. It's been significant.

I didn't like the cases like the magpul one for the simple reason that it wouldn't mount on my belt. I REALLY like the Bodyglove case. Click on the INSTRUCTIONS tab to see how it works.

Full 360* rotation, case is protected if dropped, and the stand is actually usefull, whether to prop it up on its own or for holding the phone to your ear and propping it on your shoulder for hands free.

I think I found them for $12 on eBay.

Yes there is a belt case that this fits!!! It is a black case with stippling on it going 45* to the length of the phone. I got mine at the Verizon store when I got my phone months ago, and it worked great, very low profile, no ninja clip bullshit, and it was damn near half the price and a hell of a lot smaller than the Otterbox. The case I am talking about is the one with the slide "kickstand" for lack of a better term. I will try and get some pics of the case I am talking about tomorrow.

I purchased the case months ago, and it worked great until recently when it had become a little worn out and the phone slid out really easy. So I was at the store today, saw this magpul case, put my phone in it, and it slid directly into the belt portion of the original case!! I was F%CKING STOKED!! I did see just the belt portion on Amazon the other day for around $5-6. The Magpul case is a fairly tight fit, which is good as it keeps it from coming out, and it is a perfect fit. I am not sure if the Magpul case would fit as good in a new belt case, but we all own a dremel dont we? BTW with the belt case part the screen is on the inside and it is felt covered (a little more of a description).

Hope this helps, and I will get some pics up soon.
