Re: Taliban snipers
I agree with kraigWY, if there is lead in the air there is hope.
I don't know how things go on over in the Sandbox. In that video I see them shoot a smoke round for a marker. I guess that is for air support.
In Sunny Southeast Asia circa 1969, we would have been adjusting the Redlegs and their tubes to bring things to our advantage. We would also be calling the LZ for organic 81mm fire. All this would be happening as the Cobras were working out. God Bless the Cobras that were soon on site, maybe that is what the smoke was for.
The video only shows the grunts getting it together and getting back into cover. I think I would have prefered to stay under or behind the cover that was out there and wait for the ARTY.
My question is, Do our people on the ground have as quick a response time for tube ARTY and AIR or ARA support as we did in VN? Do they operate under a ARTY and AIR fan where they are covered most or all of the time?
I fear that lessons learned the Hard Way in RVN were lost when the Old Lifers retired and are having to be re-learned by the New command with young E-3--E-6 blood spilling along the way.
