Lost in Idaho...
I've been getting the itch lately to build myself a 8mm Mauser rifle. Ive been tossing the idea of building a mid-weight rifle for Elk hunting and general target shooting. Maybe something along the lines of a 700 action in a KRG Bravo chassis with a Proof barrel.. Would be a nice Elk hammer and there is just something that makes me happy about a .323 bullet.

Am I crazy?

Personally I really like the 8mm Mauser round. I find it very versatile.. if you reload it there are tons of choices. I have a 6.5 CM, 308 and 8MM Mauser and really love all 3 rounds but the 8mm is a very cool round. I'd say go for it as a general hunting round.. you can take any North American game animal out to 300 yards in great shape.

Not really any worse off than .30-06 for performance. Bullet selection/availability may not be great but if you find something that works and buy a few hundred at a time I doubt you'll have any problems. Bonus coolguy points for the cartridge to start the .473" dia. rimless trend.
