This question is primarily intended for Zak, but I'd appreciate advice from anyone having re-cored (primarily) the 9" cans from 30CB9's to Ultra 9's.
Now I bought the can literally weeks or days before the Ultras came out and wasn't told about them, otherwise I'd have waited and just bought the Ultra 9. But Zak has long since smoothed that experience over and "made it right" and as a result I've bought other Ultra's in 6.5mm 9" and .30 5" --I love 'em and am always recommending TBAC on here for quality, light and precision oriented cans.
But this is basically a new can. I got it mostly for 6.5 Grendel but wanted to be able to use .30 too, primarily a 16" .300 Blackout, because my selection wasn't that diverse yet and it was that or an SDN6. Before I could use it much, I already had the 6.5 Ultra 9 and a 5" for the Blackout. Now I plan on a precision .30 caliber rifle, a bolt gun probably in some magnum chambering suitable for use with this can.
So bottom line, is it worth re-coring a basically new 30CB9, or should I wait until it's seen more use? Will I get the full 4dB reduction advertised as the difference between the .30 Ultra 9 and 30CB9? When it's re-cored, can the bottom 4 inches or so of the tube be checkered? How much is it, and what do I need to do to get the work done? I'm guessing I'll need to call you guys at TBAC, but is a dealer involved? That sort of thing.
