Just read about this Team Rubicon the other day. Pretty awesome way to give back. They reimburse for travel, food, and lodging if you do get deployed. They have a use for all physical fitness levels and qualifications. As soon as I saw this I decided I wanted to be a part of it. My wife and I were in West Liberty, KY for the tornado a few years back and since then have been talking about getting her into the National Guard so she could assist with natural disasters, and I have been looking for a way to use Marine Corps, paramedic, and security/LE skills. Well gymnastics took a toll on her foot and the resulting screws left her ineligible for NG. This, on the other hand is just what we have been looking for; and to top it all off, it was founded by a Marine Scout Sniper. No better company that that! After you sign up, you have to pay for a background check, but if you pass it and go on at least one operation, they reimburse you for it. Then there are a couple NIMS to do, all you coppers and medics and firefighters should already have those done. Best part is that it's not government run.
