As far as I know the Gen 2 reticle was discontinued due to patent issues with Premier Reticle. I have a Nikon 4-16 Tactical that had been "referbished" but the thing was brand new in box, but it has a standard Mildot. The paperwork in the box shows the gen 2 reticle. It was at the same time they took the gen 2 off the market. I bought it because at the time it was a steel at $650.00 Great glass, tough scope, but now they have the monarch line that some say is a cheaper version, I have never used or seen them though.

I have a 2.5-10x and like it. It is the tactical, not the newer monarch X.
It tracks true and returns with out problems, glass is good enough to connect with my targets out to 1k.

I had 2 of the new Monarch Tacticals in 2.5x10,they both had the new standard mil-dot reticule in them as well. Great scopes, they tracked fine, had very good glass (in my opinion better than my Leupold mark 4), and were very well made. Wish I hadn’t sold them. They are a great optic for mounting on an AR platform in .223 or .308. I had one mounted in my Noveski AR-10 (.308Win) and the other was on my SPR clone (.223 Rem). I didn’t shoot either rifle past 600 yards so I could hold over using the reticule without needing to dial.
I think the Gen II Mil-Dot was simply a mil-dot with hash marks at the 1/2 mil point between the dots. Great idea, wish it had been a feature on the Monarch line.

Best bang for the buck if you can find one. Yes, it was discontinued due to copyright issues.
Have it mounted on my steyr sbs and have hit 1100 yards with a .308. And there was plenty of elevation left.
I have the illuminated model and it has red and green reticles, before it was cool to do so.

They changed the reticule because of patent violation. Great scopes. I still have an original and it still works great.
Been tasting a new Monarch X in 4-16x50. In short great scope. Glass is very good, tracks well.
Missing, lit feature and wish it had more than 50 moa total adjustment. Other than that fantastic scope
The new 2.5-10s have both lit ret featiure and plenty of travel. Great scopes all around
