So I have this idea and wanted to see what you guys think of it. Since I don’t wanna pay $2500 for a MAWL and I don’t want a DBAL D2...I’m thinking about going with a dual light setup.

I have had the M600V on my mind for a few days and my buddy has one. The only problem is that light is mediocre performance on both white and IR. I already have a streamlight HLX and I could pair it with a modlite IR light that puts out 1100mw vs SF 120mw of IR light.

Then I could run a dual pressure pad to control both lights. The SF light I would have to switch it on the bezel between modes.

The modlite would be tucked tightly at 45* and under that would be my HLX. So I’d have a good 1000lumen white light and 1100mw IR light.

Good idea or am I retarded? Lol

As far as aiming, I have a Unity FAST mount that I aim passively with. So the laser isn’t that important to me which is why I’m considering a dual light system vs D2 or MAWL with white combo.

So when you turn on the IR illuminator head you’re still be looking through the (assuming) Aimpoint to shoot? Should work ok but I’d be very careful about your switch system and getting into a position where you trigger the white light when you don’t want to. Is there even a dual switch that does Surefire + HLX plug? That doesn’t seem very standard.

What’s it for? You can head mount illuminators too. If it’s nothing in extremis, clicking a button on your head is pretty quick

nothing stupid about two lights though.

Correct. Unity Tactical makes their TAP switch in a dual lead Surefire configuration. So all I would need is the Arisaka HLX to SF end cap adapter for crane plug in.

To add another level of dummy proof, I could just leave the IR light with a clicky tailcap instead of a switch to decrease the chance of activating the white under nods. It would save me about $200 too lol

I just read that you will be forgoing a laser. if that's the case, i'd mount the switch you use the most on the 12 o clock rail and the other taped in between picatinny at the 4:30 (7:30 if you're left handed). The picatinny will prevent you from ND'ing that device. I'm not a big fan of dual switches personally because I like how standard switches give you a longer button to press. Gives you more room for adjusting position or error.

EDIT: If you really don't want to ND your white light, you can tape it up or use the lockout function.

Well, I pulled the trigger and bought the modlite with the 1100mW IR head. I went with the standard clicky tailcap that does momentary or constant on. My HLX has a tape switch at 12 o clock, so I figured before spending even more money...might as well try the IR light mounted at 45* deg with clicky cap and HLX at 90* with tape switch at 12.

If it seems like it’s not going work, I’ll just wait until the Unity HOT button comes back in stock and then it’ll be two separate switches for each light reducing the chance of turning on the wrong one.

I've always had the white light have a lockout option as well as require positive control via the tailswitch clicky directly. Reason for this is while handeling the weapon, moving, stowing it, having it slung, getting into position, whatever, the chance of a white light ND via a tapeswitch is a concern.

Additionally, I want only 1 tape on the gun as I wont mistake it for the IR when I want the white light or the other way around. Tape switch = PEQ15, positive click control tailcap = white light.

This concept was easily proven to me when I tried this via a Surefire SRD-IT connected to both the PEQ and a light. I'd hit the wrong tape switch at times and I'd knock the switch on the 12 o clock rail and would turn something on for a second.

The unity tactical hot button is really appealing for the reasons you stated. It would be a lot harder to ND that setup vs a standard tape switch.

Maybe I will end up switching the IR light to 90* with hot button at 12 and white light with clicky tailcap at 45*. I’m excited to play around with the setup and see how it goes.
