Temperature sensitivity of Eley Terget ammo?

You are just going to have to dial more elevation or go to a hotter round
</div></div>

That doesn't make sense to me. Are you saying it's faster when it gets cold?

OK, now it makes sense. Gotta quit drinking so early...

The air is thicker when its cold so yes I use faster ammo.

Re: Temperature sensitivity of Eley Terget ammo?

Biathlon competitors use special loads formulated for cold weather.
There's thread on a biathlon forum with a fellow from warmer climes, but still able to ski, went to a comp in a cold place and couldn't get his Fed or whatever to group. An experienced competitor gave him a box of Polar or Biathlon, with a resulting improvement in accuracy.
At lower elevation and higher temp, the usual load had been fine.

I have no clue to the primer and the effects of the cold. To test that you could leave a box in your car with the heat on take it out and shoot it. Then have a box outside in the cold and shoot that one. I would try it but right now it's around 75 here during the day. The density is going to make an impact because the round takes a long time to get to 200 yards. How far are your shots missing by ? The barrel being cold will also have some effect, Does the bullet keep moving up as it warms ?

Sorry for being dense, but I'm not sure I understand the question.

My original problem is that my POI's don't match up to the dope predicted by my ballistic software. In fact, it's not even very close. It's surprising to me because the same program has been dead nuts on for at least 3 other rifles. I was hoping that the muzzle velocities were down due to the cold as that would have explained the discrepancy. The lack of change in MV due to temp means that there is some other issue.

Re: Temperature sensitivity of Eley Terget ammo?

As an Ugly Flatlander, this discussion is all theoretical to me.

I assume now that your problem is low impact?

The reading I have done indicated a problem with loss of accuracy rather than just velocity.Could be priming, powder or lube.

Check my links above; try different ammo. Maybe call the OTC in Colo Spgs and talk to some biathlon guys.

Are the 3 other rifles centerfires?

Re: Temperature sensitivity of Eley Terget ammo?

Some of the problem in the winter is the lube. The wax/tallow lube is thicker. The ammo is cold, your barrel is cold things slow down. A rimfire barrel really never seems to get hot to me.
