So I called Tenebraex to get some covers, of course since it's me half of what I need won't be listed or even manufactured (and I always get to sit at every red light, so there, that's my background). I've been using these on a few rifles for a while now and I like 'em a lot. They're a lot better built than the BC's, cheaper than the AAD's, and they mount solid. Caps flip back instead of breaking. Price isn't too bad really, more than BC's, less than AAD's. Their new mounting assy. is nice, they use a crenelated ring that threads into the optic and the cap fits on that and can be rotated into position on that ring. ARDs have the ring cast into it and just thread right in. They've also expanded their line of IR filters and polarized caps. Lots of options. I think they cornered the flip cap market.

Anyway, I called 'em and they squared me away on a couple Leupolds I have, one has an older ARD on it already so current caps won't fit. But they had a solution! Just use an occular cap if it'll fit! So we made those work. Got numbers for two larger USO scopes. Then there's the SR8. That thing has funky dimensions and was never made in large numbers. Part listed by Eurooptic was the wrong one. Tenebraex didn't have it listed at all. Called. Squared away.

But not only squared away. They went the extra step. He told me they make caps for 7000 different parts for different applications. Damn! So I told him what I was doing and he asked if I wanted an ARD for that one, I said fuck it, why not? He said with this new machine that they'll be able to make ARDs for scopes that previously wouldn't fit, and they aren't the drop in ones either.

And so they no shit fired up their new machinery to custom make this part this morning, I'll be the first one to get a part from it even. Gave me a list of part numbers that he assured me Eurooptic won't know, but to just tell them he said to do it anyway. Talked to him before close yesterday and this morning he already had a part number waiting for me on that custom ARD. That's CS.

On top of all this, I first contacted them direct late last year. I have an Acog with their caps and it just never fit right. I wasn't so sure about 'em at first. He took a look at it and said it had the wrong parts. To give him my address and he's make it right. He did just that and there wasn't even a charge for that. So I remembered that when I got ready to replace BC's on other scopes. They do strive to make it right and do it right the first time.

    Hats off to Tenebraex!

Not sure what all models they make IR filters for, but the ARD and cap can go in front of it all in once piece. I have an ACOG done that way. Now that I know how much they actually make, I'd say for sure if you don't see what you want or need in the fit guide, then just call Tenebraex in Canada direct and talk to sales or tech support. Patrick squared me away.

Not sure how many IR filters I really need though since they don't make one for a PVS30 (but may have a fit for a PVS14) and at night even on a 2 way range I wouldn't be using my day optic. So I haven't invested as heavily in them. But ARDs not only hide your position, they make great sunshades allowing mostly direct light to enter, so I have quite a few of those, I use 'em on almost every optic I own including the binos.

And the clear/polarized occular filter caps would be great if shooting against glare is an issue you run across. If I was a cop I'd probably have a polarized filter on whatever rifle I carried. And they all come in tan/FDE or black.

What's nice is literally how much they make, how much is compatible with one another, and of course, the quality of service.

I dropped a bunch of part numbers on Eurooptic yesterday, not one was a number they were familiar with so they gotta call Tenebraex to get pricing and get back to me. One was a part number that only exists for me right now, the first ARD off the new machine. So hats off to Eurooptic too for dealing with an order this abstract and convoluted.

One thing which I find annoying is that no one I've been able to find makes flip up scope covers for Nighforce BR 12-42s. At least not since Butler Creek got bought out and the 57A front is no longer made. Yeah, piss me of Bushnell.

Tried calling Tenebreax but no one was home so I shot them an e-mail.

Being as I am in to Nikon cameras it wasn't much of a stretch to come up with the idea of using camera filters mainly to protect the scope lenses. There are some nice polarizers too.

Yeah, Butler Creek used to make a large cover for the USO observation scope but not anymore. Nobody makes one big enough and I haven't found anything from another make that'll work (I don't know the thread pitch for one). Finding one to fit a PVS30 has been likewise impossible. However, Tenebraex was able to fit other mfg.'s model's caps based on measurements in order to fit a couple scopes I have that have the older ARDs and won't work with the new caps, at least the new caps designed for that particular scope. But it doesn't matter since another one fit and we went that route.

I've always liked the Tenebraex stuff but their new line of caps and such is amazing --over 7000 parts! Including IR laser filters. Not even close to everything is listed and that new machine can make even more, one off custom stuff. The caps fit well, either clamp on or fit on a threaded bezel. They fold back instead of breaking and seem well made. I believe they have a lifetime warranty? At any rate, they'll outlive a Butler Creek and perform better too. I guess after this order, I'll have put Tenebraex caps on pretty much all my optics save the 3x30 Acogs, which for some reason they don't make caps for (does anyone, for both ocular and objective?).

Yesterday EuroOptic got back to me about the sale, it had to go through them and they got all those special items not in stock and with no part numbers ready to ship pretty fast if you ask me. I didn't get my normal discount due to it being a Tenebraex product (some items just don't qualify) but they were fast and efficient. They did typo one part and ordered the clear ocular caps for the USO's so now the correct ones are backordered but they're gonna ship when they get 'em, presumably on their dime. It was an easy mistake though and they made good.

Price was the usual and the custom ARD Tenebraex made for me on their new machine was actually priced very well too, especially given it's the first and only one in existence. So big thumbs up for both Tenebraex and EuroOptic on this whole deal for making it happen! It's gonna be nice to have caps that work and don't break at inopportune moments.
