Kicking Ass Somewhere
For all the shit talking by Texan, I gotta say their gun laws and processes are very NYish. It takes 6 - 8 weeks and 8 hour $100-200 course for a permit holder that moves here from another state to get a Texas CCP. Florida took 6 days and 8 bucks. There is now a bill trying to get through the legislature but keeps hitting road blocks from the republicans. NRA and other organizations are sitting their hands secretly hoping that the bill does not go through so they can maintain the fund raising, this is a big danger that we dont discuss enough. The NRA and other organizations should be working to put themselves out of business not perpetuating this money machine of holding our rights hostage.

It's a cash cow for them. I did have mine back in 10 days, but that was 8 years ago. I like the OK law, no Fed, school, sports, or booze. Anything else is fair game. I think the open carry prompted people to place both restrictions on there place.

For all the shit AL gets for being slow, backwards, whatever, my process is 15mins and about $25 and I can renew it online. Walk into the SO, present a valid ID, get your picture taken and fill out a basic form that IIRC essentially mirrors a 4473. Sit for a few mins and read a magazine while the nice lady runs a criminal history and calls you up to the counter to collect your permit. Bada Bing Bada Boom.

I think the reason that Texas has been hit with all the gun bullshit is because we talked all that shit so people started coming after our freedoms. my CHL was $100, 10hr class but now it is 4hrs i think, did some shooting, and 4 weeks later it is here. i just renewed it and it was all online which took 15 mins.

I wish we had better gun laws on the books here but the laws that are in place let me do what ever i want to any way so it doesnt bother me too much.

Plus, if you concealed it "PROPERLY" then you can go anywhere and nobody knows. Rather be judged by 6 than carried by 12. (if you saw the size of me then you would laugh as to why i changed those numbers around)

In Texas, the rural areas are quite conservative......but get close to a big city and they are mostly libs, with some conservatives sprinkled around. Just like most states, it is to a great degree controlled by the dems/socialists in metro areas.

I"m all for open carry/ no permit/ 51% rule.

ahhhh man you guys are so so lucky. Talking about having to pay $200 to be able to carry a concealed weapon in public, gun owners here would pay any amount of money to be able to do that !!!!!! I'm downunder here the only people allowed to carry a concealed weapon are criminals and the government!!! us law abiding citizens are not even allowed to own pump action shot guns they are even trying to ban lever action shotguns here, handguns......forget about it. I sure hope your country never follows the path that our government took you guys need to fight and keep everything you have.

Well, I live here in AL. What you describe would only be for the initial issue. Renewals only require the writing of the check (provided you haven't run afoul in the interim). In fact, I just renewed my wife and myself for 5 years each by writing a check (it's 20.00/year each). One GREAT thing here is, if you have a CCL, when you purchase a new gun, you still fill out the 4473, but you don't have to wait for them to phone it in and get approval. Your CCL IS your approval. Sign and walk out with it.

As you mention, there is a constitutional carry bill in congress now, but please do not use that as an excuse not to move elsewhere...

I think we have some variances by county. I've only done the visit a few times to get my permit. I went in person the first time and I think I did an in-person renewal when I was home from overseas for logistical reasons.

Down where I was my FFL would still do the NICS. They may not have needed to, but I never enjoyed the benefit of instant approval with my permit. With the demographics of my county I'm totally fine with that considering the number of unconvicted gangstas that may have the card but may have picked up a new case in the interim without having their card pulled.

Ah, Indiana.

The Indy 500, corn, and LIFETIME carry permits. Yes, LIFETIME! No class required. You have to submit your application thru your local police office, fingerprint, background check and cost is $125 I think. Took me about 4-6 weeks to get mine back.

i really feel for some of the bullshit others states require.

I wish the Texas CHL class, shooting portion, was a lot tougher than it is now.
I've seen some folks I would be tempted to shoot before engaging the bad guy just for my own safety.
