Guys ,

I will be in New Braunfels area in feb with the wife while she visits her friend. I would like to get a hunt while she has her visit. Anybody got any sugestions? I saw a guy name Raby and he had some indirect feedback @ a couple of tx hunting site.

Is it possible to just put together a hunt on public land on my own or would it be better to book a hunt with someone?

I really just want to get out and get away from the wife for bit. Thanks Slick.

Re: Texas varmint/hog hunt.

Thanks for the advice. the exotic stuff aint for me either. I'd rather kill a squirrel with my recurve. That is my type of exotic hunt.

I saw some feedback about the guy Raby on the web site link you gave me. His deal is lodging/hunt for 2 nights 3 days for @ $380.00. That does not seem to bad of a price and he had some decent feedback. Apparently he breeds corsican sheep for other to put out for hunts. He has his leases in Kerrville area.

I just don't know how many hogs I would want to shoot. From reading they sound pretty plentiful. So maybe I will bring my recurve and try to stalk for the extra challenge. I would like shoot coyote or bobcat for the pelt. Got a rifle for them though.

Anyway thanks for the tip @ public land. Slick

Definitely go with a guide. be careful some of them will hit you will all sorts of little fees everything from required skinning to charging for the freezer that you store the meet in. If you want to use you bow be sure that you talk with you guide. Most people use rifles.

$300-$400 is on the low end and some will be more. I have been on good and bad hunts.

usually as many as you come across...

you should be able to find a good one day hog hunt around $250

Re: Texas varmint/hog hunt.

What kind of guns did they use?
What kind of NV did they use?

Re: Texas varmint/hog hunt.

If there is a bag limit on paid and guided hunt, I wouldn't go. They are pest on the places I hunt and pretty much everywhere else, shoot em till your barrel melts. There's a guy doing hunts out in east Texas that uses night vision AND thermal imaging on supressed ARs, I've heard good things about him, here's his website: TACTICAL HOG CONTROL

Re: Texas varmint/hog hunt.

randy is real good.. he will let ya whack as many as ya come across.. coming form out of state he will stay out later with you to ensure you have a good hunt.. when you set up a date , they bait the areas really good a few days prior so you will have targets..

i believe he has 3rd gen night vision on the rifles.. but dont quote me.. as i said with our experience, we had a great time.. my buddy came down from washington, randy and gerald went out of their way to make sure we had a good time... shoot they even skinned what we shot and popped em in the cooler for no extra charge...cant wait to go back...

Re: Texas varmint/hog hunt.

sorry missed this one..
main shooter uses a suppresed bolt action stalk in to about 20yds.. and a ar set up in 6.8 for the second shooter to clean up the runners..

Re: Texas varmint/hog hunt.

Forget the public land. Better to find a way to get on private land if you can. Most places down here will treat you right, but certainly look into the recommendations from the others.
