Wow. I am way late to the game on this one. I may be looking at things differently though. I think that the 1911 that sold for 166,750 was a different one than the auction linked to. By looking at the pictures, they appear to be two different pistols. Interesting none the less.
I looked through the auction catalog and a few things caught my eye.
Sorry, I am a bit of a history buff. It looks like the cool stuff goes off Sunday. The site claims that the 1911 Singer has sold but I can't find the final price. I will try to watch on Sunday and see what some of this goes for. Talk about pieces of history, WOW!
That`s just a case of a bidding war run wild. I`ve seen auctions on several sites that sold way beyond what any sane value would dictate just because someone decided they had to have an item.
But I guess that`s the whole point of an auction any way.
Well if you are like me and can't afford a real one then there are still some of the clones out there. I ran across this one on Gunbroker http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=204458440 and it is a complete package that is unfired. I currently don't have the jack sitting around to pick it up however, I thought one of the other members would find it interesting. No, it is not my listing.
