If I'm planning to shoot coyotes out to 600 yds with my .243 Winchester do I run the 75 V-Max or the 105 A-Max?

Re: The 243 to 600 yds?

My 10 twist hates 105's, doesn't group 95's very good either. It really likes 85,87, and 90 grain pills. 600 is not a problem with 44.5g H414 in my 243AI pushing 90g Scriocco II's.

Re: The 243 to 600 yds?

I've got a bunch of 87's on the shelf as well and pounds of Varget. That might make the decision for me right there.

Re: The 243 to 600 yds?

What rifle are you using? What twist is your barrel? If you find some 105's and you have a 1/8tw or so thats what i would run. I believe there is a guy on here sendero man and he uses them on yotes to 600.

Re: The 243 to 600 yds?

If you have a twist that will support it, I would go with the heavier bullet to cut the wind a little better. But I tend to run things on the heavy side usually anyway.

Yes.

Re: The 243 to 600 yds?

I prefer the 105's in mine (bergers) but mine is a 1:8. See what it shoots best and use that. Unless you have an aftermarket barrel or are shooting a custom you will probably be limited to the lighter bullets.

That combo works well for me.... Ground Hog at 350 and coyote at 225
Haven't had the chance to shoot anything further than that

Absolutely Nastiness is what can be expected!

What twist woukld be best for the heavies, like the 87's to 105's?

Re: The 243 to 600 yds?

i shoot 105 vlds with a ture 1-9 had one out of 20 key hole at 1000 yard but it was pretty cold out -15 c

Re: The 243 to 600 yds?

My SAUER 202 puts the hammer on em way out there with the 85 gr TSX. They are worth a try, if a bit pricey....Sierra GK's @ 85 shoot pretty close at about 1/2 the price...600 is not an issue for them on Yote's.

Re: The 243 to 600 yds?

My 1 in 9 twist shot superb with amax, I don't think a 1 in 10 will do. So, there ya go, if you have the proper twist rate, run the amax, you will likely be more accurate at 600 yards.

87 gr Vmax or 105 Amax. Either will do a number on coyotes. Both shoot well in my 1:9.25 twist. I think the trick to get the 105's to work is to get enough velocity out of them. RE-17 does that for me.
