I know, I know, Veer_G spends all of his time in the Bear Pit and never makes those posts, you know what I mean?

Hopefully, this'll give your weekends a good start.

Just turned the last screw on her two hours ago. I think I shall call her "Agnieszka," in an homage to a past European sojourn, as weapons are as close to strange as I'll ever get. The build is DMR-ish, I guess, the result of a few lazy years of parts accumulation. As the pile grew, I accelerated the pace, and here we are after a 7 month wait on the barrel, which wasn't unexpected.

From left to right:

- YHM Phantom QD FH
- Custom 20" 5.45x39 H-BAR barrel from ASI, Byers, CO, chambered for Hornady V-MAX 60gr
- Superlative Arms AGB BO .750, melonited/melonited gas tube
- VLTOR VIS-3AK "polylithic" 12" FF/upper, picatinny rails/FA
- Atlas BT10-LW17 bipod
- Stag Arms 5.56 lower (thank you, BHO) c. 2008
- Power Custom Oversize Magazine Release
- Geissele NM DMR trigger
- No-Name 5.45x39 BCG
- DEZ Tactical Arms Enhanced FP
- Custom extractor cut down from 7.62x39 model
- BCM Gunfighter CH
- Brownells AR16/M16 Oversized Trigger Guard
- Radian Talon 45/90 Ambidextrous Safety
- Sierra Precision M16/AR15 grip
- JP Enterprises Silent Captured Recoil Buffer Spring Assembly Gen 2
- Luth MBA1 buttstock/QD sling swivel (not pictured)
- CTK AR Rail
- CTK Ultimate Rail-Pod

Glass and mount are being thought out, and I have a pair of Troy HK-style Micro Battlesights. As-is, 10.2 lbs.

You need to get a range report on this thing ASAP! I've always thought a 5.45 AR would be awesome but I don't have the balls to get too far off the beaten path.

If you don't get off the beaten path, Kirk, how are you ever gonna get to hook up with blue-skinned women with fire-red hair?

I am looking for an optics solution right now. Fear not.

A custom 17" Bartlein 5R 5.56mm barrel with rifle length gas system custom made for MSTN by Craddock Precision is the "raison d'être" for this precision rig. A Battle Arms 556-LW billet receiver set acts as the foundation. All the usual MSTN componentry is here: DLC coated N/M bolt carrier group; Vltor A5 recoil system; BCM KMR; Surefire MB556; Geissele SSA-E trigger; PRI Gas Buster; SLR gas block; Magpul stock & pistol grip; plus every titanium component applicable from V Seven. Camo Cerakote by Shapeshifter Finishing.

I don't think I've posted here. Newest build. Things are only hand tight. Receivers came back yesterday and I wanted to see how it looked together.
Grabbed a gunshow Harris knock off yesterday too. We'll see how it works until I splurge on a nicer one. Want to upgrade the trigger first.

Here's my .223 precision shooter. It averages .5 MOA groups at 100y with 77gr Fed Gold SMK, but I don't shoot many groups. I built it to try out the gas gun PRS series and shoot some local matches.

MSTN what's your favorite receiver?

That's an excellent question - And a tough one to answer. I stock and regularly build off of Battle Arms Development, SanTan Tactical, V Seven, Seekins, as well as 2A Armament receiver sets. Each has its strong points.

It's a pleasure working with high end components like these. They're as close to perfection in terms of design, fit, and finish as I believe can be achieved. And there is never a fitment issue.

In terms of ultra light weight, BAD, V Seven, and 2A can't be beat. So, how does one choose? It's all about style points at this level. All three are masterpieces. And style points really take in the forend design. For example, we are really comparing in the lightweight category:

BAD receiver set with Fortis Switch or BCM KMR rail (Geissele rails will not fit!)
V Seven receiver set with V Seven Enlightened handguard (An updated Noveske NSR with a titanium barrel nut, in my view)
2A receiver set with 2A Balios rail

Lightweight rifles built on these receivers with quality barrels will definitely surprise you in the accuracy department, too. But the shooter must deploy the weapon in a consistent manner to see this type of performance.

In terms of raw accuracy potential, I feel the rigidity of the Seekins IRMT upper receiver design simply can't be beat. But keep in mind that a Seekins mag well will NOT accept a Magpul Gen 3 magazine. The Seekins billet receiver set was perfect for my personal 6.5 Grendel build, using a more conventional E-Lander metal magazine. The Seekins billet receivers tend to be heavier than the others mentioned here.

At a sweet spot in the middle of the weight spectrum is the SanTan Pillar receiver set. They come complete with ambi mag release and bolt release, as well, and at a very fair price. The SanTan Pillar receiver set is at home with Geissele, BCM KMR, Fortis, and KAC URX rails. The CNC scalloping all over this creation is for more than just looks. It is adding material in key areas to strengthen the upper receiver. The end result is another visually stunning design that looks as sharp as it can perform.

In terms of billet upper receivers from the above companies, don't think you can buy any of these billet uppers and have it drop right onto your XYZ lower. With this level of precision fit, parts interchangeability suffers to a degree. It might - or might not - fit. I strongly suggest you stick with receiver SETS. As far as I know, only LaRue knows how to make a billet upper that will consistently fit ANY lower and not wiggle.
