I was a bit of a late bloomer when it came to attending concerts. Growing up I was never allowed to go to any shows being in a devout Catholic family because of... let's just call them religious "reasons".

That said- I still remember my first concert, it was the "Pop Disaster" tour in... 2002(?). The headliner was Green Day (this was before the American Idiot album came out), the opening act was "Saves the DaY" and the mid act was the actual band I wanted to see above all else, Blink 182.

As time went on- I spent a considerable amount of my life as a self proclaimed concert whore. It used to be "pit tickets or bust" I was there when a mosh pit broke out at a Korn concert and we stood at attention in front of the 1st SGT because one had a broken collar bone & another had a black eye that looked like he went a round or two with Mike Tyson.

I was there when Papa Roach wasn't on the ticket but they did a surprise appearance in a concert opened by "Burn Halo" and headlined by "Avenged Sevenfold" I happened to pick the "right" bar that night after the show to have a few drinks with Avenged Sevenfold one on one and didn't realize that the whole time I was bullshitting with them they had a guy "inviting/snagging" every attractive woman in the bar to party with them in a reserved room upstairs (I was not invited upstairs with them and was left with the downstairs sausage party)

I saw "Flyleaf" in the Theatre of the Living Arts during a time when they were unknown and touring with "Smile Empty Soul" & "Cold". They were the opening act and this 5' nothing lead singer came out and we are all asking "WTF" and let me tell you this woman had some lungs on her. We ended up talking to the band afterwards and bought their CD literally out of the trunk of their car. We thought we'd get an invite to an afterparty because things were going so well- whelp it wasn't initially obvious but they're a christian rock band so... yeah that didn't work out.

I was there at the 3 Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Buckcherry concert. One of the best battle buddies you could have asked for wore a shirt with a stick figure depiction of a stripper on a pole with the text underneath saying "I support single moms" and a chick literally purchased the shirt off of his back in exchange for a concert T & some extra cash while our "DD" drowned himself in Jack & Cokes.

I remember when the roles reversed and I had to be "that" battle buddy for someone else. I had whored myself out often enough that I got "insider" offers from Live Nation. So during the Dark Horse Tour with Nickelback, Seether & Saving Able. That tour was sold out but I bought enough concert tickets by that point I was able to snag pit tickets last minute for my battle & me in Atlanta. I also met some folks that night in the Pit which put my life trajectory on a completely different path.

I was at Warped Tour (either '04 or '05) in Camden, NJ where it was so hot that they called the fire department in and they literally hosed down the crowd. Problem was this was all set up on a giant parking lot and the humidity that followed was unbearable. To this day I can no longer drink Powerade without it triggering a gag reflex. God that ended up being miserable towards the end.

I was there holding tickets to finally see Linkin Park in Hershey, PA after years of wanting to see them only to have Chester off himself shortly before that concert. That one hurt, not so much because of the tickets I had, but I just really liked Linkin Park & that left a hole in my life.

I was there to finally see the band Sevendust for the first time and being completely shocked that the lead singer was black. I saw Bowling for Soup at the same venue shortly afterwards and had the lead singer of the opening act want to pick a physical fight with me because I didn't give a crap about them/their band and just wanted to watch BFS.

Around 20 years or so ago- I was supposed to see the band Something Corporate, and the lead singer got diagnosed with cancer shortly afterwards.... fast forward 15 years or so ago, my wife's bestie won some sort of competition and got to meet Andrew McMahon in Harrisburg and she brought my wife along for her "+1" and I ended up with his autograph...that one meant an awful lot to me.

I could keep going on but I have a lot of stories with the concerts I've attended and how they've unexpectedly altered my life path. It's wild looking back how choosing to attend a concert would end up making such a profound difference in my life & the path I'd take afterwards.

Anyone else have a similar story/experience?

Motley Crue, late '85 or early '86 in Tacoma. During "Home Sweet Home", there was a girl a few feet from me who got her shirt lifted up while she was on some guys shoulders. (Very nice tits, as I recall! ) She was passed thru the crowd to center stage, Vince Neil pulled her up and took her back stage.

She's about halfway thru the video. Can't see me, just out of the camera shot to her right.

That's a cool story- got one of your own to tell by chance?

I was very young and was taken to see Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, but I was way too young to remember. I do remember seeing Huey Lewis at a local fair back as a young teen, but it sucked ass. Not because of the band, but because of the ghetto ass sound system.

    Ok, Grand Funk Railroad stories:

Mark Farner and Don Brewer are from my hometown, Swartz Creek, MI. (Mel Shocker is from Grand Blanc, about 15 miles away.) My mom and dad went to school with Mark and Don. The 1st time my dad smoked weed was with Mark. :ROFLMAO:

When I was 5 or 6, '71 or '72, my aunt took me to lunch at the Big Boy's by the Genesee Valley mall. While we were waiting for a table, Mark, Don, and Mel came in behind us and asked us to sit with them and bought us lunch. My aunt was a hippy and was freaking out!! She's still rather fond of telling the story every time I see her.

In '98, we went to see Grand Funk at Pine Knob with my dad and stepmother. Before the show, my dad said to me, "Maybe I should see about sending a note to Mark thru security, maybe we can get backstage." He didn't do it. :(

Were to start mostly at SPAC
    1 - Doodie Bothers
    2 - Santana ( back stage)
    3-Grateful Dead
4- Pink Floyd. The Wall it was insane

    Golden Domes Syracuse
    Steve Miller
    1st Who Farewell Tour

    Shea Stadium,,for my birthday
    The Clash,Eric Burden,,The Who

    And for the final prize
My Aunt/Godmother as well often went to the Seneca Lake, glad we came by boat docked at a close relatives

Took me at 15yr old to The Watkins Glen Concert
Little did she know it was bigger than Woodstock
    Alman Brothers,Grateful Dead,,The Band

I was doing martial arts in college and we got approached by the army staff sergeant to work security at the Universal amplatheater.

It was a nine inch nails opening for Jane's addiction.

I could never afford the tickets. I worked 4 concerts in the pits.

Met a girl working for the airline to boot and hooked up with her later.

Anyone who can't afford concert tickets - get a security job

They pay a few $$ and I could work any show they had at the theater

It's just cool to me that you have something to share that makes you unique and stating it in a way that's unapologetic. Own it.

I saw Robert Plant and Jimmy Page in late '95 I think, I remember my son was still a baby. His 1st concert, that he doesn't remember was Pink Floyd in '94 while my wife was pregnant with him.

How was Santana? I was planning on catching a concert with him in 2007 or so but I got deployed to Iraq ahead of schedule and missed the opportunity. I bet it was incredible though.

I would have loved to see Pink Floyd with Roger Waters!! I saw them twice, '87 in Tampa and '94 in Pontiac.

I saw NIN almost by accident 10 years or so ago... I was taken aback by it essentially being only one dude with a computer and a new "crew" every tour he did...

damn forgot Elvis in the astrodome in '69. I was 9.
The Astrodome... that's in TX right? I had to take a moment to look this up. He died in '77 @ age 42. So in '69 you'd still are talking about young/thin Elvis @ 34 years old...

Not sure where I'm going with this other than to give you props that you caught the "king" in his prime.

One of my few regrets in life. Never saw Pink Floyd
    The best stage show ever!

The Pontiac Silverdome was known for its shitty acoustics. But still, Gilmour's solo in Comfortably Numb was the loudest and most crystal clear thing I've ever heard.

Elvis really wasn't fat for that long. I definitely prefer 60s and 70s Elvis instead of 50s.

Pink Floyd... really? No judgement here- just not sure if I know the backstory there is all. My regret was missing Linkin Park having tickets in hand and the lead singer taking an undesirable path forward which negated my tickets.

What's the story with Pink Floyd?

    They're just that good!

Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are my #1 and 1A, in no particular order.

My son tried talking me into Bitcoin when it was about $3k. I thought he was out of his mind. :(
Yeah, DJ Maseo from De La Soul, did the same at my buddy’s nightclub when it was about a quarter 🤦‍♂️
He was super stoned and talked about all these people in LA doing it. Didn’t make any sense to me. Shoulda woulda coulda. I’ve got few regrets but, damn.

Pink Floyd was good, in '94 and yes, they had a stage show.
But the best stage show I'd ever seen at any concert, was BY FAR the Ronnie James Dio concert, back in about '85. Vancouver.
Yngwie Malmsteen opened for him, with Rising Force.

    Metallica (x3)
    Metal Church
    Dire Straits
Def Leppard - Tesla opened for them.

That's all I can remember right now...

Back in 1985 during the Theatre of Pain tour, Motley Crue did a meet & greet at Cat's Records in Nashville. Got to meet all of them and take pics. Nikki Sixx looked wasted and Mick Mars looked old even back then. They were busy signing girl's tits & a$$es.

Either 1974 or 1975 St. Louis..... Keith Moon opened, Charlie Daniels played second and Lynard Skynard closed. Fantastic. Moon was so out of control, it would not have surprised me if he collapsed on the stage. I seem to remember that he passed away shortly thereafter.

I saw Dio on that tour, New Years Eve in Seattle. There was a huge net up in the rafters full of balloons and confetti & shit. He stopped playing at 2355, and never came back out for encores. About 2358, they turned the lights on. We left pretty disappointed. It ranks right down there with the worst shows I've seen.

In no certain order or time….

    Rolling Stones

Oh boy, I'm sure I can't remember them all because. . .reasons. but here goes.

Buffalo Springfield and Jefferson Airplane, 1967

    1756819268213.jpeg

Santana, when they were third on the bill, Avalon Ballroom. My buddy was friends with Gregg Rolie.

    1756819597407.jpeg

    Cream at The Fillmore

    1756819783354.jpeg

    Chicago at the Fillmore

    1756819858712.jpeg

Big Brother and the Holding Company, Grateful Dead, Chuck Berry, (Winterland) The Temptations, 1966, Fillmore, Country Joe and the Fish, The Tubes, and many more.

I had no idea at the time how fortunate we were.

I'm genuinely envious of some of the bands you old farts have seen.

I'd have to think a while to name all I've seen, my 1st real concert was AC/DC in '83.

Another cool one was Johnny and Edgar Winter at a bar in Daytona Beach. Don't recall which one of them was on the bill, but the other showed up too.

George Thorogood & the Destroyers at the Ocean Center in Daytona. 2 girls were dancing topless in the aisle a couple rows in front of me. I got up, tapped them on the shoulder, and asked them to turn around. They obliged me. Ended up meeting the 2 of them a few weeks later. 1 was a stripper, the other was a bartender at the same strip club. I ended up banging the bartender.
