The movie is way way different then what the series was.

Re: The Last Airbender

Watched it last night on BluRay. The movie got bad reviews and did not do very well at the box office. I enjoyed the movie for some reason. The dialog was juvenile much of the time. character development was OK, especially considering that this is a series, it should have been much better. If you watch closely, it seems they used the same sets on many different scenes, so much so that it is noticable.

Some will hate it, some will like it. Hard to say anyone would love it, unless you are a youth.

Sadly most cartoons are much better then feature length films. They have more creative and visual freedom, most of them usually tell better stories as well. Best part is there are almost no rom-com's in cartoons, and if there are they are sure to kill almost every other character in the film so I call it a wash!

I have the Airbender DVD series and they are quite enjoyable, the 2nd and 3rd season/books are much better then the first. I avoided the movie though and from what I have heard am glad I did.

On the subject of cartoons and graphic novels, a lot of people may not realize some of the better dramas and thrillers that have been out in the last 10 years have been adapted from graphic novels. "Road to Perdition" and "A History of Violence" come to mind...

Lets not forget about "Wanted" "Walking Dead" "Constantine" and "Surrogates" just to name a few.
I started this thread back before the movie came out and after watching it more than once I still can't get past the feeling that the actors have reading cards telling them how their emotions should be and speak. The story is great, the visual effects are great but the acting is poor. Plus he is leaving some of the main story out of the movies even though he filmed it in the first place. He said he was worried he would ruin the story of characters he liked so much so he cut it from the movie. I think he should have picked better actors if he didn't want to ruin the movie. JMHO
Its fun when I go to speak at schools about being an author and every now and then I get a kid who asks if I have ever read a graphic novel and I start telling them which ones I like which is quickly followed by a weird stare from the teacher at the middle school
