The nitride finish on ARC Nucleus

Hey there guys,

Quick question i was curious about.
I remember ARC not being a fan of the Nitride application on the Mausingfield (for structural integrity reasons). Any reason why nitride is used on the Nucleus? Is the nucleus made with a metal better suited for it? Or is it just to fit a lower budget?

Just curious is all.

At the time ARC hadn’t tested it and wasn’t going to guarantee something that someone cooked at extremely high temps and not planned for in his designs. He said looking back he might have considered it as an alternative to the (superior imo) dlc but that the nucleus was designed with nitride in mind as a cost saving benefit.

If I recall correctly Ted said that the Nucleus was designed to be at a lower price point thus an alloy was selected the heat treating would work properly with the nitride process.

Ah okay cool. So i guess the pricepoint hasnt sacrificed integrity in this case? That's good to hear. Not that i would expect to have issues otherwise, just wanted to know.
