America's Largest Army?

Remember this when you hear of pending Senate action on the UN - (read George Soros) - sponsored worldwide arms control bill!!!

Very interesting concept, no?

The world's largest army... America's hunters!

A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:

There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin.
Allow me to restate that number.

Over the last several months, Wisconsin's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world. More men under arms than in Iran. More than in France and Germany combined. These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed!!!

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan's 700,000 hunters, all of whom have now returned home.

Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point? .......

America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer.
It's a matter of national security.

That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed.

Food for thought next time GUN CONTROL comes up in the Senate for debate!!!

Re: The world's largest "Army"

The problem is that the threat comes from within the USA and that most of these hunters see no reasons for your AR's, pistols or class III weapons.

Your battles will not be won on a battlefield, they have to be won in public opinion and political arena.

Re: The world's largest "Army"

I'm sorry, when I see shows like "swamp people" and other "hunting" video's on You-tube, I wonder how many "hunters" are "army-equivalent" markspersons...let alone experts in tactics should an "invasion" occur.

Re: The world's largest "Army"

UKD- good point but assumes honest editing. Give a video editor enough footage, an agenda, and time in the booth and you'd swear anyone with a tab or colored beret couldn't defend a gallon of ice cream from a quadriplegic anorexic 14 year old girl.

Such an invasion would invite a guerrilla response. And we are painfully aware how effective those can be when home turf is on the line.

Re: The world's largest "Army"

Thats good news for you guys in the USA.

I wish I could say that same for Australia.

We are neighbours to China and our government, and population, are not pro firearms. We do have a small amount but thats exactly it... small.

China can and probably will take over Australia one day.

When the time comes, farm supply, hardware, builder supply, an pharmacy's can supply more tangible items for the battle than guns in the hands of bullet magnets.

Wal-Mart here in the States, is one stop shopping, and could be our saving grace.
A gun is a device most none thinkers get the warm an fuzzes over when it comes to self protection.

Re: The world's largest "Army"

When you consider the Swamp People, etc.; keep in mind the rounds-to-kills ratio in Vietnam, etc.

Somebody; has to shoot all those wasted rounds...

But,....if your keep the pot stirred and smelly long enough, how many other items in their agenda can they get completed w/o the masses even knowing or caring?

Re: The world's largest "Army"

We've got to keep supporting the NRA and letting them work for the people. We've also got to be responsible fun owners and stay cool.

To add to the comment about national security, it was a famous Japanese general who said during WWII, "we could never invade the U.S., surely there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass." (paraphrased, may be slightly different, recalled it from flawed memory).

Isoroku Yamamoto, Fleet Admiral and Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy. He studied in America. He was an alumnus of the U.S. Naval War College and Harvard University.
The phrase is (You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.)
It has been declared, that this attribution is "unsubstantiated and almost certainly bogus, even though it has been repeated thousands of times in various Internet postings. There is no record of the commander in chief of Japan’s wartime fleet ever saying it."

and the other phrase made famous by tora tora tora, and the movie Pearl Harbor was (I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve)it is thought that it summarizes his sentiments well, a definite source for this quote has never been provided.

In a time of need, I would not sell that generation short. Most kids have eye hand coordination that you and I only could wish for. My little girl I have working on mags swaps and it comes real easy for her. I guess I equate it to her DS time.

First I'm young also. (27)

True I agree, but I wonder if thumb eye coordination is the same as hand eye, ( lets give them a baseball bat or a rifle and find out!) LOL

I heard the military was now using or going to start using interactive training ( something like a video game). I remember before I got out we where shooting on the super Nintendo for range practice.

Re: The world's largest "Army"

Not trying to change the direction of the thread but the Army already does use video games to train. In basic training a little over 5 years ago we used what was called EST (engagement skills trainer). Basically its a range inside a building that uses mostly real m16s and m4s with an air compressor hooked up to them to simulate recoil. You aim them at a computer screen of a rifle range about 10 meters away and simulate zeroing and qualifying. I guess its to teach them safety and how to do things right before you get real bullets. I feel its a waste of time and money but they still do it. The only way to get better at shooting is to shoot. I dont care how good you are at duck hunt.

Re: The world's largest "Army"

Dont underestimate video games for giving couch noobs and teens a rough idea on battlefield tactics and a basic understanding of firearms...

Please dont troll me on that, but to some degree it is true.

3% of the US population Beat the Largest standing army in the world to Win our Independence .... Most were Farmers

But the NRA is a BUSINESS that Relies on Gun Control to make Millions in Profit. I will NOT Support them. Anyone with a clue on business knows the NRA is not looking to "Win" anything, they would go Bankrupt !

To put the NRA more in concept of this topic check out the Friends of the NRA Program. They raise millions, and 100% of that money goes back to the local communities to build ranges, provide equipment and training for marksmanship programs mainly juniors.

My little town of 3000 raised $77K in a recient FNRA Banquet. Our club get thousands back to improve our range and support for our junior shooting programs. For a town this size we have a pretty dern good indoor and out door range, plus a nice trap range. Thre are two towns in our county, Newcastle (3000)and Upton (1000), both have indoor & outdoor ranges we wouldnt be able to afford if it wasn't for the Friends of the NRA.
We wouldn't have our 4H shooting program if it wasn't for the NRA.

Maybe in some regard but I don't know. I had some stupid kid (about 20 years old) start talking to me about my M1 one day at the range. I was going to let him shoot it but had to first show him how to load it. He said, and I'm not kidding here, he's seen it done playing COD and other games and knows how its done. We went back and forth for a minute but I finally relented. To make a long story short dipshit got a quick lesson what M1 thumb is.

Re: The world's largest "Army"

If you think that Call of Duty teaches kids how to shoot, you should see some of those non-shooting privates in basic... Also those farmers that fought in the revolution were also reliant on their skill with arms to put food on the table, something that the average kid in America has no idea how to do.

Re: The world's largest "Army"

If America was attacked on our own soil, it wouldn't be men with guns to worry about and your guns would most likely be pretty useless. Your neighbor toting around his grandpa's ought6 isn't much use against a terrorist attack. Personal protection, sport and recreation is where us civilians have use for firearms......All valid reasons to own imo.

So the NRA doesn't have lobbyists that are protecting gun owners? From a 50,000 ft view: If they didn't have an interest in their members retaining 2nd Amendment freedoms and the slowly take away our rights of protection, hunting, and recreation; wouldn't they lose their profit making ability? Just an honest question, I'm not trying to start anything, just want to know more about your viewpoint.

Maybe I don't know what you know, What is the NRA's real business model?

I would expect them to make some profit, heck I wouldn't do it for free. But I think they serve some good. Good is relative I know, but I would bet the NRA is more honest than the Red Cross ($1 mill exec salaries for a non profit org and very little of the total donations actually going towards helping people).

Re: The world's largest "Army"

There are clowns in every suit in life. Unfortuantely, hunters, LE and military are included. And all are armed with a varied type of weapon. Minus the "clowns" that still leaves a certain number who are skilled in weapons handling. If just 1 in 10 of all hunters are proficient with their weapon, that is still one helluvan "army". One I would step out on a limb and suggest could give fits to any standing army minus our own governments technology. Afghanistan?

So lets get off our collective asses and do something about it.

Get involved in CMP GSM and Rimfire Sporter Programs, NRA Light Rifle & HP Junior Programs. Get out there and become a 4H Shooing Sports leader, help coach the Boy Scouts and YMCA youth shooting programs. Get involved in Appleseed sponcering kids.

I bet 90% of those kids would love to learn to shoot, they just need mentors.

We bitch about the kids but what are we doing about the problem?
