You are correct, this is repeated ad-nauseam. However, we aren't a democracy and never have been. We are a constitutional republic. We are a democracy only to that point when the wishes of the majority bumps into the rules outlined by the Constitution. The first ten amendments (Bill of Rights for the many in our populace that never had a civics class) are there to protect the individual from the majority. An actual democracy is mob rule.
Create ignorance, change definitions. Repeat the lie.

I’ve noticed this phrase “threat to democracy” too, and at first it galled me because it’s easy to read the word “democracy”and think “freedom”, which means they are bald-faced liars.
Then, I realized that in their minds, they aren’t lying. In fact the phrase “threat to democracy” tips their hand. Their plan is to jettison the concept of a constitutional government that protects the rights of the minority. Instead, it will be socialism by majority rule, aka their “democracy”.
It’s exactly how they act. Our country is split pretty much 47-47% with 6% of people who fancy themselves too wise to pick a side. Yet, when the left gets power, they act like the other 47% of the country doesn’t even exist.
The upside to this is its a terrible plan. How long will 47 people allow themselves to be subjugated and abused at the hands of just 53? You don’t need to be a Spartan to find those odds acceptable.

GW certainly would not push that, Obama left it alone, Trump was too busy banning the bump stock to release the documents.
Here is a trivial exercise. Find any crime, at all, in America where a crime involved using a semi-automatic rifle and a bump stock. I don't care if it was a 7-11 hold up. And the FBI "closed" the Phillip Paddock case with no resolution. The same FBI that is supposed to have us all on a list.
