They won't stop until Xe (aka Blackwater) is destroyed completely. Know there were issues with respect to the shootings in Iraq in the fog of war (happens in our own military as well); but shame in all this is that they never lost a single diplomat they contracted to protect. Link below.

Xe to be Prosecuted Again

Re: They won't Stop

I think it's kind of funny that they skirted the federal firearms laws with that phony "We're just storing the Sheriff's weapons" crap...........and now they have to defend it.

They give the Sheriff a "loan" to buy the weapons.....then offer to "store" them for the Sheriff's Dept. However, in the past 5 years the Sheriff admits that none of his Deputies have even qualified with the rifles & they aren't carried in cars for use.....

Play with fire.......sometimes you get burned.

Re: They won't Stop

Sending good men to do bad things to bad people. Kinda like the CIA, I don't really want to know what they do as long as they are doing what is best for the country. Totally don't agree with anything that happened with Katrina but Obama has a vendetta against the military and or anyone involved in the military.

Re: They won't Stop

According to the article, it kinda sounds like Blackwater made what would otherwise be known as a straw purchase. They couldn't own new (made after 1986) select-fire sticks because they are not a government agency but are a private party as per GCA 1986. So, in order to get some select-fire stuff, they put the guns in the name of the Sheriff's Office (govt agency that IS allowed to own them) but planned to use them for their own "training". If this is truly the case, somebody is going to go to jail. Its sad because, from what I can see, they needed to find a proper training solution with select-fire gear but couldn't because of legal prohibitions. Kinda screwed up, but not excusable. You can't just disobey a law because you don't agree with it, provided it doesn't violate the Constitution.

Re: They won't Stop

This is screwed up. Blackwater (Xe) is not a criminal enterprise. The weapons in question were not used to rob banks, loot liquor stores, or kill LEO's.

The purpose of the GCA 1986 was to protect the police, from bad guys legally armed with select fire weapons.

Guess what Blackwater found a workaround, and got the local LEO to buy and take nominal ownership of the weapons. So now the ATF jackboots are going to prosecute them.

Can't have full auto weapons in the hands of "evil corporate" America. Better to have them only in the hands of the benevolent Government.

Gee, I feel safer already........

Re: They won't Stop

Blackwater Armory may have had/or should have had a Type 07 Manufacturer's License and they could have built all of the weapons they needed for training and then destroyed them and taken them out of the registry of Post 1986 MG's.

No need to get local LE involved at that point.

It appears that they used a poor solution to an easy to fix problem.

Chad, you're living in the past man. Who is the biggest violator of the Constitution in America today? I think you know the answer to that one.

Re: They won't Stop

It ought to be interesting to witness the legal battle coming up. The heavy hand and deep pockets of the feds versus the resources of Xe and the many attorneys spoiling to put this government back in its place.

Xe has corporate council and I find it difficult to believe they would build so vast an enterprise on so flimsy a basis. They aren't Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac afterall, with a influential, flaming homo eager to carry their water in congress.

Time will tell.

Re: They won't Stop

I feel like Xe's being represented a little too biased here. It's not like they're a bunch of boy scouts helping diplomats to cross the road. Those dudes took the great training the military gave them, and then went to work at Xe (Blackwater at the time) to earn LOADS of money doing dangerous work. It's simply capitalism at its best. Instead of taking resources from overburdened infantry units, the USG hired contractors to protect its assets, and Xe became Oprah-rich doing that job. Without question, I think some of the Xe operators were very professional in conducting that job.

However, painting them with such an enormously broad stroke is a bit disingenuous. There's quite a few Xe workers who love the buzz that combat brings, and without question there are incidents of civilians being killed unnecessarily. While the federal government may be exacting revenge for a lack of fire discipline on the part of Xe, let's not be having a ticker tape parade for these guys. Our tax dollars paid these guys to leave the military (who needs their training and leadership) to go downrange and provide services. Am I grateful to Xe for that work? Not at all. Do I hold it against them? Not at all. To me, it's simply a wash, neither good nor bad. Let's not oversell the role of contractors overseas, the real heroes are the ones still wearing a uniform and trying to rebuild these shit hole countries we love fighting in.

Re: They won't Stop

I don't see this as bias as much as what I see as an abuse of power by the feds. In other words, they will keep going after you until they get you. If one angle does'nt work, they go for another and yet another until you are destroyed. With virtually unlimited resources compared to any one company or individual they can do this. A threat to us all, not just Xe.

Re: They won't Stop

I have several former co-workers that did contracts with Blackwater - all good and honorable men who served their country in various military tours as well as law enforcement. I realize that all organizations have a few bad apples that draw the headlines, but go after these few and leave the rest alone.
