Thinking about a T3 build

Just wondering if I'm on the right track. I've always build AR and my last bolt gun was a 700 SPS and I don't want to repeat my mistakes.

Right now I have an amazing Noveske 300BLK but I'm relocating to Yellowknife, NWT and I'd like to have a bolt-gun setup that mimics my AR as much as possible but at the same time be able to do long range (800-1000m) and perhaps be able to hunt game.

I'm planning to buy a Tikka T3 light 308 for ~700$ and have a Benchmark 18.75" 1/8 twist installed to handle the heavy Berger 190 and be able to stabilize SMK240 subs. Base would be EGW 20MOA and scope would be a Vortex PST 4-16 FFP. Haven't decided on rings, I'd like the idea of 1 piece ADM QD rings to be able to switch between my AR and my Boltgun but it's probably a ton of trouble for cheekweld, eye relief, etc.

The last thing I would buy would be a XLR Evolution chassis and I would use the same stock and grip as my AR15. I was wondering if the Evolution stock use a standard A1 tube and could be installed on a normal AR15 receiver?
Also, I'd like to handload subs, is trailboss still the best powder for that and do you still need to drill the flash hole ? What kind of accuracy I might be looking at compared to 300blk subs?

So I'm pretty much looking at a 3500$ build (including gunsmithing fees) for what I'd believe would be a tack driver. Anything wrong with this ? Should I go with a different action (R700 or 10FP) since I'm rebarelling anyway might as well true it ?

Re: Thinking about a T3 build

Yes AR10 would be the perfect platform but sadly they're restricted firearms as well. I need a non-restricted firearm for long range or hunting.

Sounds like a great idea! So good in fact that I'm building one right now. My XLR stock came in yesterday, and my T3 should be on its way back from the gunsmith any day now. I love the smoothness of the T3 actions.

Re: Thinking about a T3 build

why not just buy a 308 varmint model, look into doing some blue dot loads and leave it as is or customize it without changing out the barrel, as much as I love tikkas there is no way I would put $3500 into one.

Re: Thinking about a T3 build

I'd rather have $3500 into a T3 than a M700 any day

.

A TRG or AIAE than either.

I didn't say spend it on a 700, I personally will not do anymore customs on remingtons, only custom actions. for $3500 there is alot of choices that include a custom action if you look around. but I still confess to being a tikka fan and really wished they offered more options.

No such thing as GAP Templar Action or Surgeon action in Canada ... Tikka T3 seemed to me the next best thing (TRG would be better but I'd be looking at an 7k build)

Re: Thinking about a T3 build

Sounds like a great idea, I just did that with a 6.5 creedmoor! I hated to re barrel a T-3 that was shooting .250 groups but I just wanted a creedmoor.
